3 Months, 42 Pounds and going SLLOOWWWW!

Recommended Posts

So I seem to be losing 10 pounds a month (including my preop diet). I started at 240, so not too terribly high, but I'm out three full months now and only down 42 pounds. I need to be down another 18 pounds by the end of september to be ready for my breast reduction/lift and I'm so nervous! I have been running 3-9 miles a week trying to push it so hard but the slowing down is killing me. I'm trying to remember that it's not just weight, but measurements and muscle. I lost 6 inches in my waist last month so i know I'm shifting weight to muscle, but it's hard not to feel discouraged.

How is everything going for my fellow April sleevers?!!?!?!?

I ws sleeved 5/15 and down 38 lbs.

I sometimes wonder if my lost amount is low or just right. I am not having any problems.

I started around 240

I think 10pounds a month is fine. That's what I've been averaging. It's frustrating to see people doing more, but it is what it is, I'm losing and not gaining. The office says I should average 1-2 pounds per week and I'm doing that and then some.

I think if you keep doing what you're doing then it's reasonable to lose almost 18 pounds then by the end of September.

Usually an egg prepared whichever way or cottage cheese for Breakfast along with my Syntax nectar Protein Drinks (24 grams for 100 cal). Mini baby bel lights for Snacks. chicken or some other Protein for lunch, maybe with a small salad or some other veggies, and similar for dinner. Fairly few carbs, goal is to hit 60 grams of protein a day which I track on myfitnesspal

Yes that's definitely true for me too. I'm very good during the week but on the weekends I'll have a treat here and there. I do workout about 3-4 hours a week including running 3 miles and hour long dance classes but I hope just pushing through will help. :). Gotta slap myself on the wrist and get back on track. :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
