I had my Gastric Sleeve surgery on April 3, 2013.... Today is August 4, 2013. I have lost a total of 102 lbs. I am blown away along with everyone who knows me. I started at 325lbs and now in just a little over 16 weeks, I am at 223lbs. NOTHING SHORT OF INCREDIBLE! I did want to share what I feel were 2 keys to my success for anyone thinking of having the surgery..... #1 biggest thing... Exercise.. even if I is 20 minutes a day.... Since a week after my surgery, I have worked out approx. 45-60 minutes a day-- walking 1-2 miles on the treadmill and then upper body weights lot of reps.... #2, a very supportive wife. She was and is there with me every step of the way....but has not smothered... she was there to listen and offer suggestions when I asked for them. She made everything feel really normal, when in reality, she was seeing me melt away and likely was a little panicked. .My journey has been a little mentally challenging.... I was surprised that I am never hungry... I need to remind my self to eat--- PROTINE, PROTINE, PROTINE!!!! It is a must!!!! Hydrate--- a lot of Water is needed every day. I had a couple of days where I got dehydrated and had the symptoms. It is a change of life, you have to learn how to live differently...... But I have absolutely NO REGRETS! Good luck to anyone that takes the leap. It is quite a wild ride!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
