I haven't had surgery yet, but I was curious how long it took some of you to get back to work. I work a full time job, primarily at a desk. I don't have to worry about lifting; plenty of Soldiers around to help out if needed. Just wanting to give my work a rough idea of how long I will be out.

I took two weeks off. The first week back was hard, but I also have three small children. In hindsight, I probably should have taken 3 weeks, which is what was approved for my leave of absence.

Social Worker with the VA here, being sleeved tomorrow morning and am scheduled back to work on the 19th. I'm going to take good care of myself, have the clients do any carrying and lifting, and hopefully will be good to go. B)

Hi, I was sleeved on the 27th July. Feeling able to go back to my desk job now however I don't actually go back until 14th August. Two weeks should be enough time off from work I would think.

I just felt like I had to have some time to heal. My job does have a physical element.

I took one week but my doc just made me take another. Im still very fatigued and dehydrated. I started Vitamins today which should help and I intend to work hard to get hydrated. I wish I had taken two initially so that my unrealistic expectations were not transferred to my boss.

I was back at work one week post-op. Things have been really well for me. The only thing that was different for me was that I was tired by the afternoon. But, that may be because I was in training all week for my first week back.

Took 8 weeks off because I am a labor and delivery RN and my job is very physical. I do 12 hours shifts overnight and can be standing for 3/4 of the time. I have a fit it and I average 3 to 4 miles on a night just walking in my unit. I am glad that a lot of you can go back to work 1 or 2 weeks later, but we can't see this as a contest. Every job is different. On top of my job i am a single mother of 3 boys one my 15 year old has autism. He cannot talk and need consent supervision. One of the reasons I had this done that I can't die right now I'd I can help it. I was sleeved on may 1st weight 306 pre op. yesterday down to 236. I lost mt 70th pound! I was very happy.

Everyone is different- I took two weeks off but I have a desk job. If I had an active job I think I would have needed at least another week or two.

Thanks for the input everyone. I am sure if I had a labor intensive job I would need to take longer than two weeks. But since the general thought seems to be desk job = two weeks leave I will go with that.

I plan on taking 4 weeks off but my employer is very good about time off and I get sick pay so it is much easier. I also am a bit of a baby when it comes to pain. My surgery is in two days

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
