multivitamins = sickness ?!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, hope you are doing well.

I am 5 weeks out and used WLS optimum Multivitamins and they make me sick each time.

Is this normal to feel sick or throw up or get a nasty stomach pain after taking vitmains supplements? !!!

I tried them on empty stomach, after meal and emptied their contents in a drink and got the same results...

Any suggestions would be great... xx

I have the same issues with Vitamins and haven't had WLS. I have found that vitamins that are in a powder form work best for me. I also take them with food before I got to bed. Maybe talk to your NUR?

I had problems with the chewable bariatric Vitamins if I took them on an empty stomach. The first time it happened, I had chewed it up as I was leaving the house. Got 5 miles down the road & had to perform the stunt driving pull over to the emergency lane to throw up out the car door maneuver. It happened one more time after that & then I couldn't chew them without wanting to gag. I haven't taken any in 2 weeks, but I know I need to get back on it. I think I'm going to try a Gummy type & hope they work.

Same issue but for me it fades with time. Since it's more important that you get some of this supplemental nutrition, consider gummies for a short time. Not long term - they are definitely not as well rounded as a traditional multi. But for that period of time when everything makes you feel nauseated it can help. I eventually found that a chewable prenatal Vitamin didn't cause me any issues and even had some Iron it it, as well. Find what works. If this particular vitamin isn't working now, set it aside and try something new, and go back to it and try it again in a month or so.

Good luck,

~Cheri

For all of my life, Vitamins would bother my stomach if it was empty. I was so worried how I would tolerate vitamins post-op with so little in the tummy. My NUT recommended nutrametrix which are powdered isotonic vitamins. I take the multi and Calcium and mix and drink all at once and it counts towards my Water too. He taste is like a sour tang. I recommend mixing it with ice cold water for best taste. www.nutrametrix.com

I found them on luckyvitamin.com, they cost under $30 for 90 days supply. I also bought a high potency stress b complex hoping to slow down or stop the Hair loss when it starts.

I had the same issue with opurity Vitamins. They literally make me throw up Everytime I take them. I called my nut and she told me they usually don't recommend capsules this early post surgery but since they make me throw up I could try Celebrate Vitamins formulated for wls patients. I havent had any problems since.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
