What foods do you no longer like?

Recommended Posts

I've heard there are foods that VSGers used to like but sometimes their tastes change after surgery and they don't like anymore. Just wondering which ones they are for some people?!

The only taste change for me was that I dont care for sweet things any more. They tend to be TOO sweet now. Other than that, I still enjoy the taste of all the other foods.

I have not had any changes as to what I like. Only the amount that I can eat. Of course I have not had any bread, Pasta, rice or sugar since my surgery so I dont know if I still like those things. (pretty sure I will) I always heard that was more for the Bypass patients.

I still LOVE EVERYTHING about food... There is nothing I don't like now... but since surgery I LOVE Frank's Red Hot sauce. Used to be a bottle of that would last me years.. but went through a bottle in 6 weeks! Now I finally understand their tag line.

There are things that I can't tolerate any longer, but nothing that I don't like because of a change in tastes. If anything I like more things now. Before I never liked spicy foods, now I can't have enough spice!

eggs used to be my favorite thing to eat for Breakfast lunch and dinner and while I was on an all liquid diet right after surgery I couldn't wait to finally eat eggs again. But I think I've eaten 2 eggs in the past 2 months and the thought of them kinda grosses me out. When I ate them they tasted normal and delicious but I don't think I will try them again. At least not for a while

food in general. I get hungry but nothing sounds good. I just do whatever Protein, then I'm full and move on to something else to do besides eat.

Twix. Never in my life have I not liked Twix but I had some and it was not at all good. My best friend congratulated me on not liking Twix anymore and it is a relief to check another temptation off the list. But still...Twix. I used to love Twix.

Hamburger meat. I used to love a good hamburger, but now even at 4+ months out even a bite or two of a hamburger or anything made with ground hamburger makes me queasy. It's not the loss that I thought it would be though... When you don't like it, it's easy to just not have it!

It's not that I don't like it, I was just very disappointed when I had it for the first time post op- pizza. I was so excited to be able to eat some and so we ordered my fav. When I bit into it it was- just blah. I ate the toppings instead.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
