Can anyone tell me how they dealt with the scary fact that you can die from this surgery. I'm sorry to be so morbid but this reallllly scares me and I'm trying hard not to think about it. Yeah, I know you can die of anything but this is really making me second guess myself. Especially with the link between the sleeve and pancreatic cancer and stomach cancer. Sorry. I just really need someone help.

I don't fly well either- always kinda looking at the bad things that can happen. For me, I put my faith and trust in my surgeon and learned to block the rest. That is easier said than done, right? :) I know the anxiety is normal, I have been through it all and lived to be on the other side. What you are feeling is NORMAL. Just keep telling yourself it will be okay (and I totally believe it will be) and put people in your life who support this decision (like me!). And personally I haven't read anything about the sleeve and stomach or pancreatic cancer- and I refuse to. I am not going to borrow trouble today when it is so beautiful out and summer vacation still in full swing! (I am a teacher, lol). Don't let yourself go there, hold on, you really will be ok and so glad you did this for yourself!

Hi Yvette, I had surgery on the 23rd. I am doing well now. But I had so much anxiety and fear in the few days leading to surgery and after surgery that I questioned if I were/had done the right thing. It was so scary to me once it got down to the wire. I almost backed out. As of this morning, I am down 17 lbs from my heaviest weight and feeling pretty good. Just take your time and be sure you feel good about your doctor and the facility where you will have surgery. Pray about your concerns and make the best decision for you. I'm sure you will be fine.

Ughh, I honestly do trust the Dr. and I still have 3 more moths before my 2nd consult and ultimately surgery date. But sometimes you come across that one story about who didn't make it, and THAT terrifies me. THanks for your words of encouragement. These boards really do make all the difference. I'm grateful for everyone. And yeahhh for you. I'm glad you're doing well. Thanks again.

Thank you Patteee. Didn't mean to put the whole pancreatic cancer thing out there. But I just needed to scream it out LOL. I'm definitely going through the motions. I went to my psychiatrist appt. yesterday for clearance and I MADE SURE I DIDN"T SAY ANYTHING that would hinder this surgery (lol). I will talk to my surgeon on my second appt. in NOV. (SIGHS AND SHRUGS). I just want to get it done and be like I DID IT. WOO HOO. Well you enjoy this weather and your summer off. Oh and don't look for grammatical errors hehehe. Thanks again.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
