Can I drink as fast as is comfortable?

Recommended Posts

Sleeved 7/30 and recovering really well so far. No nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach upset, nothing. Drinking only hurts if I take too big of a swallow too fast. My guidelines from my doctor indicate I should only drink 8 oz an hour, and no more than 2 oz in 15 minutes I think. If I feel fine, do I really have to drink this slowly? I feel like I could drink faster than this without problems, which would make it much easier to meet my fluid goals.< /p>

only my experience...but i drank more in the specified time period as soon as i felt comfortable (no pain/tightening in my chest). i even found myself realizing i was taking gulps! i was nervous about that but at my week post-op appt with my surgeon, she said nothing to worry about. i was also sleeved in july...but the 1st. hope you are doing well.

I was afraid something was wrong...3 days post op and I was drinking as much as I wanted! LOL I even posted on here about it...found out I wasn't alone. Some can drink as much as they want, others cannot, nothing to worry about, just drink at a pace that is comfortable for you.

My surgeon told me that I will be able to drink fluids like I used to once everything heals up....And I do...I try not to gulp though as it takes longer for it to enter the sleeve..but I can drink Water at a really good rate now....

Your doing great!

Be thankful! It took me forever to be able to do anything but sip. Pain indicates something is wrong but if there's no pain, there's nothing to worry about. You'll be one of those lucky folks that actually reaches their Protein and Water goals early on. :)

I was also one of the lucky ones. I had to sip maybe the first week or so (I probably didn't HAVE to, but I did it out of caution), but now I can drink pretty much like I did pre-op. (So no excuse for me not to get my liquids in!) :)

Well from my personal experience, my surgeon told me that if I could drink more without it bothering me to go ahead and do it. Remember that liquids run through the pyloric sphincter at the bottom of your stomach and into your intestines for absorption so the size of your stomach should not effect the amount of Fluid you can handle. My understanding is that when people have problems drinking more it is a result of the swelling in their stomach and esophagus and once that swelling has gone down it will be no problem at all to drink as much as you want. I am personally 8 months out and drink 128 oz a day, usually drinking from a 32 oz bottle that I can drink the whole of in under a half hour without issue. Good Luck and enjoy the journey.

Sleeved on July 24 and I'm just now able to do more than sips. I noticed yesterday the tightening in my chest is gone while sipping. I really miss using a straw. I'm not getting my Water in every day. That is a struggle but will get better.
