Hi Melanie, I had my band on the same day as you. I've also been having some of the same problems. I eat real food though, no sweets. I haven't had my first fill yet, but knows it will make things easier. I have heard the thing about the band being dry, but don't really believe it because a dry band would absorb moisture from your body. We are not dry inside.

Im sorry your having a hard time with your food choices. I to am a junk food and sweets junkie. But you have to remember that if all your putting into your body is garbage and your not getting enough protien and Vitamins you will start to notice it. Your hair could thin out and you can start feeling really tired. I know what works for me is that I weigh out my food at EVERY meal. And if I want sweets I add that into my meal. Most of my meals consist of a meat and a cookie. That way I get my protien and still have my sweets that I crave so much. Then my next meal I will add in vedgies and a cookie. Anyways that is what has worked for me. I know it is hard but you have to make your band work for you. Oh and make sure you are drinking plenty of Water. I have also noticed that whenever I really want sweets if I drink a big glass of Crystal Light or something sweet it really makes my craving go away. Good luck to you.

I think what they mean by the band "being dry" is that if the band wasn't primed with saline before it was put in, a lot of the Fluid they put in the first time doesn't go into the band itself. Some of it is in the tubing going from your port to your band. I had 1cc put in the first time and felt very little restriction. When I went back I had 1.5cc put in and that did the trick.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
