Bending over after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I've seen some people post that it was hard to bend over after surgery. Is this the norm? Are you not supposed to bend over for a certain period of time? My concern is that I have a house full of cats and I scoop the litter boxes every day so I have bend over for that. Am I going to need to bribe my brother to scoop the poop? LOL

Everyone is different but I had a difficult time bending over for about 2 weeks. I used my toes to pick things up and bring them up to a place where it did not hurt to bend. Although, picking up cat poop with your toes might be a little difficult. LOL

I had trouble bending over, too. If I wore shoes that needed to be fastened my hubs had to do it. Since my knees are so bad, squatting down wasn't an option for me. It also took me about 2 weeks to bend over like normal, although I could bend a little bit before 2 weeks.

Better get the bribe ready or look for a long handled poop scoop. Everyone heals differently but it was at least a week before I could pick something up from the ground.

Never had a problem bending over. In fact, I kept forgetting I wasn't supposed to lift anything over a few pounds. Oops!

I didn't have a problem bending over but I wasn't suppose to for a month.

A doctor (not my surgeon but a member of the team) caught me bending over in the hospital scolded me a bit and told me NO BENDING or twisting around or lifting anything over 15 pounds for two weeks. It was HARD for to remember this because bending didn't cause pain for me.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like I'm going to have to bribe the bro!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
