My husband was sleeved a little over 8 weeks ago. He did fine for the first 3 weeks. After that he became unable to keep anything down. Even a simple sip of Water makes him vomit. He has stomach pain, a chronic cough, burning in the throat, mouth constantly waters, extreme fatigue, & burping. He is currently in the hospital for the THIRD time for severe dehydration. We are losing hope & not getting many answers. Also he has been taking Zofran for nausea & Prevacid for acid relux. Any advice?? We are desperate!

Please let us know how this progresses. This sounds so unusual that the MDs are the best sources of info. Laura, I did not think of GERD... so DID they do a scope??

Yes the doc did a scope & didn't find anything except a ring on the esophagus from years of chronic acid relux. I also should mention that he had his gall bladder removed last week b/c the doc was sure this was the problem. He is still sick & continues to get worse. He has constant bile that comes up into his mouth & he's so miserable. Can GERD cause excess bile production?

GERD can absolutely cause the symptoms you mentioned. Also having his Gallbladder out causes a host of digestive problems as well!

Saying a prayer for him right now!

Definitely Gerd symptoms...tell them to try prescription Nexium...it is a bit expensive even with insurance but definitely worth it.

Yes he can have bile reflux.... I wonder if they have done a barium swallow? I think if there is bile coming up it would mean the lower sphincter is not closing properly?? Bowel obstruction?

Slow draining stomach (Gastroparesis)??

I don't know I'm just thinking out loud here but I would ask about these things..

Did you read the link I put above?

Oh and have the done a Esophageal motility test?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
