I am two days post opp. My surgery was July 31st and I don't feel like im really eating that much but im dreaming about food!!! Has this happened with anyone else? It's extremely weird to me to see myself eating all these random foods in my dreams but knowing I can't actually eat them! It's kinda funny, but very frustrating at the same time.

Yes!!! I have gotten scared that I am messing myself up and wake up relieved that I didn't really eat this stuff.

It took me a 2 months to really come to terms with not eating much anymore. I spent my first month post op sneaking crackers, drinking juice ect. Now I am so glad I dont have that need/urges anymore. I think it took my mind a good couple of months to catch up with the surgery and really be OK with it.

I've awakened in disappointment due to my happy dreams: flying, finding money, talking with my deceased father, saving people from a burning house, performing miracles.

I've awakened with a feeling of relief after dreaming about tornadoes, nuclear war, being crushed in a collapsing house, appearing in high school in my underwear, forgetting my locker combination, falling from tall trees.

My food dreams occasionally woke me up with cravings but were easily overcome after coffee engaged my full brain. :D

Mine were always nightmares that I was eating something I shouldn't too soon after surgery. The worst one had me sitting in my hospital bed eating fried chicken and then frantically trying to hide it in my pillow case so my doctor wouldn't find it all the while trying to think of a good cover story to explain why fried chicken was showing up on my flouroscopy.

Does the coffee take the cravings away? I haven't tried it yet but my doctor " oked" it

I'm still pre-op, but I've had this dream about smoking. I'd have a cigarette in my dream and wake up so relieved that I hadn't actually smoked one.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
