I've been pretty bummed with the liquid diet considering that I did it for 3 weeks pre op and have 2 more weeks (4 total) post op. But... Today I got in my car and had to move the seat FORWARD!! I don't think it's moved from all the way back since I got the car. Woohoo.

I love the "little" things that keep us going!

Around here they call that a NSV (non scale victory) but I call it a good day :)

I would say go As but they don't need the help,

And I'm a giants fan :P

I really appreciated this post! I am starting my pre-op liquid diet early because I can't be trusted to eat anymore. (I've been on a food bender with "last meal" syndrome!). When was your surgery?? I want to start looking forward to when I will be "feeling great!" CONGRATULATIONS! I hope it keeps feeling great!

Congratulations on your NSV!!! liquids definitely get old really fast, but keep reminding yourself, they are about safety, not so much weight loss (just an added bene!). Pre-op, to reduce fatty liver to make the surgery safer and post-op to protect your healing staple line from leaks.

Keep up the good work!!!

Surgery was July 22nd. My doctor wanted me on liquids for 2 weeks before but I was a little worried about my liver not shrinking enough so I added an extra week. I was feeling physically pretty good about 3 days post op - shouldn't take you too long!

Guess I can't say anything bad about them winning today. Hopefully the A's can pull it off too.

I'm in Santa Rosa

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
