Federal BCBS (standard) Good or Bad experiences?

Recommended Posts

I have a BMI of almost 35 and continue to gain weight, despite my brief successes, it is just a matter of time until I put back on anything I might lose. Has anyone else worked with BCBS fed? Any tips or advice?

I have Basic and it was a smooth process to get approved. Three month diet I did with primary doctor, nutrition classess, cardio, psych eval and barium test and I only paid my 35 dollar copay each time I went to a specialist....then 150.00 for the surgery...it took 3 days to get approved. I was sleeved on July 19 and just got the insurance statement. The surgery and hospital stay was billed at $59,545 but since it was with a preferred provider the insurance company actually paid $19,921.00. So in total I paid 325.00 total out of pocket.

I have fepblue basic also (LOVE basic!). Under $1000 total including all pre-op and 3 nights in hospital ( band removal with complications). I know your cost will probably be higher with std.

Yes, no problems, but my BMI was over 50. At 35 do you have any co-morbidities? And you'll need to document (via your MD) weight loss attempts over the last year, and do all the preps (which takes about 6 months).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
