My first big "test" coming!

Recommended Posts

When I travel for work, I was like a locust eating and drinking my way across the country I was in! I loved to eat the different food and drink local wines, which led to the rise in my weight over the last 2 years.

I haven't traveled post surgery abroad until now. Leave tomorrow for Madrid and am excited but a little nervous. I won't be working out while over there most likely (work long hours and go to dinner with colleagues right after and usually arrive in the hotel at 11pm) and eating out daily. I am dreading the break in my routine.

I am planning to bring Protein Bars and Cereal to replace Breakfast and maybe lunch but this will be my first really big hurdle!

I just completed my first week of work travel after surgery. All I can say is be prepared! It was a rough week, but I think I did well. Ate in concierge lounge and off appetizer menu. All those favorites i had cannot be eaten any longer :(. shakes otherwise. Wait staff asking if i didnt enjoy the food and did i need to speak to the manager or should they box it up. What suffered was my mid day Vitamins. They didn't happen.

No problem traveling with my RTD shakes. Good luck!

Its kinda extreme, but can you find a surgeon near where youre going and ask to sit in on one of his support groups? Youll meet some locals that can give you great tips on whats around that fits your dietary restrictions. Just a thought.

I wish you luck (and strength!)

I am headed on the road for my first extended trip since surgery. I am nervous about getting my Protein in and developing irregularity. I bought a lot of Quest bars....so hoping they will be my life saver. Part of my travel is international.....so praying I will be ok.

Unless they have 11pm support group, that can't happen. I work until 8 or 9pm when international. Tat and I would imagine a support group in Madrid would be in Spanish. My Spanish is good enough to order food, find a bathroom, shoe store, shop, and curse!

I actually haven't attended a support group at all yet but plan to If I am not traveling.

I just packed kashi go lean cereal and Quest bars too! Want to replace 2 meals so only 1 meal out. Tat should help. Part of it is the physchological challenge of being in a new country and on an expense account - it was biggest pre surgery downfall. I did eat healthier even pre surgery when I was home but each 15 day trip, I would eat each meal like it was my last- appetizers, entree, wine, dessert! It's like a crack addict in cracktown.

If you stick with Protein while traveling it shouldn't be to bad.

lunch and dinner just make it protein dense.

Even for breakfast, I'd rather have a plain Greek yogurt, or an omelette? than cereal or protein bar... But for me those things are the devil I don't lose weight if I depend on them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
