nydiva 27 Posted August 2, 2013 2 days post op and forcing those liquids down. On the day of surgery on couldn't have anything, yesterday after abdominal X-ray I was allowed liquids. I barely got down 2oz of broth and 1oz of some Protein and Vitamin fortified juice. Just woke up around 5:30am and could barely get down another oz of juice. I feel each sip going down and almost at the same time air and a burp come up. Is this normal? It make me feel like not drinking at all but I know I have to. Just don't want to stretch out stomach by forcing liquids. 2 Thinner1Day and altzma reacted to this
JProx 161 Posted August 2, 2013 You will have that for a few days, but if you don't stay with the liquids it will be very bad trust me. Sip a lot and it will get better.
Thinner1Day 13 Posted August 2, 2013 I am also post op day 2 and having trouble getting liquids down. I'm having like stomach cramps and my sleeve hurts when the swallowed liquid hits it. It feels like gastric reflux all the time, like something's stuck in my throat. I've only had a little clear liquid the past two days. I'm afraid to sip anything because I know it's going to hurt! Is this caused by post op swelling in my sleeve?
Lorie269 392 Posted August 2, 2013 I am a week out and I have the same feeling. For some reason, it's not to bad in the morning but gets worse throughout the day. I just take my time and sip, sip, sip. It does seem to get a little easier each day.
chacie 0 Posted August 2, 2013 Apparently this is normal. I'm 3 days out. I walk as I sip. And it helps the gas. Other than the gas, it's not that bad. But I have a paranoid feeling that that will never go away-even though I know it will. Glad to know others are experiencing this!
Jen35 283 Posted August 2, 2013 I'm going on 3 months out and it gets better:) I had the same feeling. I would take a drink and I would feel a "glug" of air come back up. My surgeon said it is normal. There is so little room in your tummy that the air comes back up. But each day, week gets better. Keep drinking, your tummy will get used to it. I can now drink Water pretty fast (that's the only liquid I can drink fast). Experiment with the liquids you drink. For example, some don't tolerate water well or don't tolerate it cold. So they try crystal light, Powerade zero, etc. I loved those things before surgery, but after I hated them. Only water for me - and I like it ice cold! 1 greygirl903 reacted to this
kj44 215 Posted August 2, 2013 4months out and sipping does get better. I too can't stand the taste of the Water enhancers post op. the sugar subs taste bitter. I also only drink water(figi or evian preferably ) with as much ice as can fit in my thermo cup and just sip sip. Refill lol.

Jen35 283 Posted August 2, 2013 ok have a question im 8 days post op and not doing great on protien but not bad in the begin of the liquid phase is it like your starving your self ? will i be ok till weel three than i can have soft foods then does it get better? I didn't do well on Protein for the first few weeks after. Protein drinks made me gag after surgery. Yes, it's kind of like you are starving yourself! I definitely felt like it. I wasn't always hungry (sometimes I was) but I could tell my body wasn't getting what it needed to be healthy. I started tracking my calories and on most days even 3 weeks out I was only getting 300 calories. That's not enough to function. BUT it gets so much better when you can eat more variety. pureed and soft foods make all the difference. Then you can move to regular foods. Just go slow - trial and error. There are still things that my tummy doesn't like, but most things I tolerate well. Hang in there, this part will be over soon.
nydiva 27 Posted August 3, 2013 Yeah the Protein shakes...that's what I want to know about. I haven't tried it yet but tomorrow I will attempt it. Meanwhile, I've been loading up on everything that's chewable like B12 Vitamin, multivitamin( flint stones complete), gas-x, Pepcid and viactin Calcium plus D3. Plus I've drinking ensure clear nutritional drink, it has 9g of protein and 21 Vitamins and minerals.
cindymaried 145 Posted August 3, 2013 I keep seeing everyone is already taking Vitamins. My Dr said wait until week 3 to start vitamins... Also I got in about 45 grams of Protein and about 32 oz of Fluid so far. Hoping to get more in in the next few hours. But only like 240 calories...
