Will I ever sleepnon my stomach again?

Recommended Posts

I'm two weeks post op. no pain in my stomach and no "tugging" pain in the belly button area. I can take my bandages off today but going to wait as long as I can to take them off. This whole sleeping on my side/back is getting old fast. I am a 100% stomach sleeper. I've tried to sleep on my stomach but I just can't. I'm wondering if its my head playing tricks on me that I'm hurting my incisions or if I really am. I just want one FULL nights sleep without waking up with a numb arm or hurting shoulder/neck.

I was sleeping on my tummy 4 days post op. nothing ever hurt but I was worried I might be causing damage, however my doc said it was fine.

Are you physically uncomfortable when on your stomach or is this more of a mental thing where you feel worried about the incisions ?

No, I never have been able to sleep on my stomach after the surgery. The GOOD NEWS is I never did before surgery either.

Sorry, I just HAD to...

Within a week I slept normally (for me rotating between back and sides) Try your tummy, you won't hurt the sleeve!

I think it's all mental but I don't know how to get over it. I'm thinking once I get the bandages off it will be easier.

I am a 100% stomach sleeper too and I was in complete and utter pain sleeping on my tummy for about 3 weeks. I would try at different times and it was unbearable at first but I kept trying until it became comfortable. The pain I got when being on stomach was not in my head, it hurt. Hang in there! You will be sleeping comfortably again very soon!

Thanks. I don't get real pain but I think I know there is something there so it makes me uncomfortable. I've been about to kinda sleep half side half stomach but on my right since my other incision is on my left.

Boobs are too big to sleep on my tummy! But I am a side sleeper and couldn't do that for almost 2 weeks (belly would hang and it hurt). So I prop a pillow there and whalla!

I tried the whole pillow under my stomach to sleep on my side but I'd wake up with pain in my hip and shoulder. I guess I just sleep all kinds of messed up ways. I would just like one full night of sleep not having to wake up to readjust.

Nope never again. So sorry.

Just kidding, I found it helped to have a firm pillow along side of me to roll onto. That way all your weight isnt being weighed down by gravity, the pillow helps support you. It does get better, I promise.

Took me a few months to be able to sleep on my stomach with out discomfort. It was the gravity. i started using a pillow at my side. and as time went by, eventually it got better. No problems sleeping on my stomach now.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
