When will I feel normal again. I had a smooth surgery July 29th. I had some scar tissue that was stuck to a lot and they removed a bunch but nothing really hurts horrible except drinking. I can barely get in 25 oz of Fluid. And that was only today... I had half cup of skim milk and half a cup of my Premier Protein drink and that's it for Protein. Its so heavy on my tummy. Along with my liquid hydrocodone. And I CANNOT take my liquid stool softener it makes my throat burn and I start bawling.

I feel totally run down and I cry every night. I heard after the first week is so much better but I am terrified I'm not getting enough of anything in. I love ice chips and sf Popsicles but I'm only supposed to have 1 sf Popsicle a day... I'm so weak and tired but afraid to take naps because I don't wanna miss drinking fluids..

Please someone who has been this way I need to know this is going to pass. I can't cry anymore my 10 yr old is so worried about me :(

Please give me some advice please!

It's only been a few days and this is a BIG surgery. Be patient and all will come good. With my dr you'd only have been getting out of hospital today, and until this morning were nil by mouth with a drip. Only small amounts of Clear Liquids starting today. Lots of drs are more adventurous than mine, but I felt his pace was perfect for me. Hope that puts it perspective a bit. Good luck.

Sydey is right. Listen, this emotional stuff is COMMON after the surgery. A bunch or hormones are not being produced and a bunch more are in overdrive. This is why (for those on psyc med, like me and an antidepressent) you DO NOT stop right before or after surgery!

Get in the liquids (and 25 oz ain't bad) (as a start). Shoot eat the danged popsicles -- better than dehydration. Work on the Protein, it's important but NOT critical for the first few weeks.

For goodness sakes NAP, I napped every day... boy I love naps, hmmm think I'll take a nap soon.....

Weight??? I gained significant weight in surgery week, and my doc said to expect it. Took 3 weeks to "break even". Relax, the stomach is not going to grow back, so you have the rest of your life to lose weight.

Take care of yourself and your family. Recover from surgery, Relax and smell the flowers, and keep talking to us, sweetie...

Oh, and there are other options for stool softening... Switch!

AND drining gets normal (for me). By the first month I was drinking (not chugging) normally...

Thanks... I know its major surgery but I hate feeling down. As of Monday I am on my own with 2 kids 5 days a week... I'm struggling with this.

How far out were you allowed to swallow pills if ever? I take ambien to sleep but it is so gross crushed it's like instant gag. My doc says go ahead but the pharmacy guy says do not swallow pills they will get stuck...

I was taking pills day 4. My stomach rebelled the liquid pain meds so they switched me to pills.

Did they get stuck at all or feel painful? My ambien is tiny and I am supposed to be taking metformin but that pill is pretty big. They want me to crush them but I can't get them down.

I swallowed pills the same day. Small pills or larger ones cut in half. Day 1-3 was tough swallowing Water. The easy fix for that is to keep a large cup,of crushed ice or ice chips near you and suck on it all day. I got all of my water in easily that way. You'll do fine.

They gave me my Synthroid in a pill + Temazapam (for sleep) in the hospital the 2nd day. I take about 6 pills a day (down from about 22), each separately of course. I used to pop a handful in at once. No more. My bp pill is pretty big too.

Not sure if anyone here takes Neurontin, but it's about the size of a Jolly Rancher. Huge. Haven't taken that since surgery, but my back is really hurting and it's probably why. I'm sposed to take 3 of them a day so even if I cut them in half, thats still 6 more pills a day...not sure what to do...

Cindy, it will get better. The first month after surgery is the hardest. Very emotional time. Just suck on ice chips, eat the damn Popsicles and concentrate on staying hydrated. Everything will get better. You're on your way to a great journey!

I also had surgery on the 29th and asking myself WTH did I do? I'm down 11lbs, no appetite, barely getting in Protein, and the bathroom is my new best friend. The only meds I am taking are my liquid hydocodone and promethazine. Like everyone else said, the sf popsicles are great as you need hydration. The protien will come. You don't want to be in the hospital. I take small 1-2 hr naps and its ok. Don't worry about the weight. Are you in a rush? It will come off in due time. Afterwhile, we will both look back at this and laugh. Take care!

I promise all of this will pass. By four weeks pot op you will feel like a new person. I was taking Tylenol 3 after surgery at home. Come to find out it was the codeine in the meds that were making me so emotional. It is a huge adjustment the first few days after surgery but just remember why you wanted to have it to begin with. I was able to drink normally at the end of my second week.

No I'm not worried about the weight loss. I wasn't expecting to lose so much so fast actually. I am losing like 3 lbs a day. Got up this morning feeling icky again took my meds and half a Protein Drink and went back to bed for a couple hours. Feel better now. I just am taking it one day at a time and sleeping when I can.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
