I am just beginning this process. Have a seminar scheduled this month and an appointment with my PCP. Any tips to speed the process up?! I'm excited! A girl I work with had it down about 9 months ago and she's down over 100 pounds!

Awesome! Your pre op tests is the starting point. Mine took about 5 weeks to do all. Just got the approval from my INS. Now, waiting for the date. Feeling exited and nervous about it. :)

It all depends on your doctor and your insurance.. everyone is different. I started in January with all of my appointments.. I have been seen by several doctors, my nut. Today I finally got my surgery date and it all depends if nothing comes back on the EDG.. (which I have my fingers and toes crossed that it doesn't) Best of luck to you!

Congratulations on starting the process. At the seminar I went to, they said to expect 9-14 months for the process to happen. It all depends on the doc and the insurance. Some insurances require 6 months of NUT visits, you'll have psych evals as well that may require some time too. You should find out all of your insurance requirements at your first appointment with the surgeons office.

Best wishes to you.

I've got a virtual appointment with my surgeon on Thursday. My first one! I'm excited too :)

I'm going to be financing since my work opted to not include WLS. I'm hoping UHC will cover all my pre-op tests though... I'm looking at hopefully scheduling in January!

It's so exciting to take charge of our futures and know this great tool will help us!

Do you know if your insurance requires a medically supervised diet plan? Mine required a 6 month plan. I think the waiting another 6 months after I finally made up my mind to have the surgery was has been the worst part. I read everything I could on the Gastric Sleeve surgery, it helped keep me motivated and educated on what I was going to be in for and what I could expect. Hopefully you wont have to wait that long for insurance purposes. Congrats on starting your journey and ask lots of questions.

It's pretty common for insurance company's to require a 3 or 6 month medically supervised diet. I ate that for you. Mine required the 6 month wait, but then my husband's employer changed insurance company so I didn't have to wait. I was sleeved 4 weeks after my first appt. I wish that insurance comany's were required to cover this immediately. The AMA just recently recognized obesity as a disease, so I think we will see a coverage change in the next couple of years, but I know that doesn't help right now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
