Liver prep diet = Gas mask a must!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I am 4 days in to the 2 week liver prep diet. My surgery is Aug 12th. My surgeon has me on 2or3 bars plus 2 Bariatric Advantage shakes plus 1 BA soy crisp then one small meal each day. It isn't hard at all to stick to for me. However....the gas and bloating is not fun. Is it just me or have any others had this problem too? I am using Quest bars with no sugar alcohols and then the Bariatric Advantage shakes and soy crisps. (The shakes are the worst.) I know I am ingesting a ton more Protein and perhaps more Fiber but this is ridiculous! At the end of the day I feel like the snoopy blimp! Anyone else have/had this problem? What did you do to help?

I had issues with Protein drinks when i first started them and during my two-week preop diet, everything you're saying. For me, it eventually went away on it's own.

I'm also 8/12 and 4 days into my diet. I have the same issues, but mine were more serious before I changed to Premier Protein shakes (I previously used Atkins). My stomach is larger than normal and I have gas pains sometimes...but it's not nearly as bad as before.

If possible, maybe they can switch your shakes.< /p>

I am on the BA shakes as well.....and initially the gas was horrific.....the Gax-X strips have helped a whole lot (disolve 2-4 right after a meal)....then one day the gas seemed to have gone away on its own.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
