Hi everyone, I'm not sure I'm posting in the right place, but I hope so! I am a 33 year old woman looking at the sleeve procedure. I started with the lap band but through additional research think that the sleeve is the way to go. I am 5/5 and 240lbs. I have struggled with weight all my life. I'm sure you all know the story...loose it and back it comes. I have never not been in a battle with my weight. I have had my thyroid checked, tried every diet under the sun and nothing. What's interesting is that my eating habits are not insanely bad. I have read about post up lifestyle and I'm like, oh that's what I eat now. I'm so tired of the struggle though. I am wondering though... (my apologies as the return key doesn't seem to be working on this computer) does anyone regret their choice? I have this fear that I won't be able to stop losing weight if I have the surgery and will become a 89 lb sickly person. Does their come a point where you can maintain? Are their any blogs or articles you would recommend reading? If you knew then what you know now...what would you tell a person looking into the surgery. It looks like I could go in as early as October. I don't want to make a rash choice but I feel like I am ready. Thank you all!

Welcome!

I WISH I could get down to 89 lbs! Lol! I'd just like to see 189! Your body will stop losing when is ready, and sometimes before you are ready for it to stop.

Seriously, I thought I ate pretty well too. Until after my sleeve surgery. Now I know how to eat. It's like being a "normal" person. I get full quickly, feel satisfied, push food away and don't think about it anymore. And I don't obsess about food all day. It's like, "oh, I'm feeling kinda tired. Guess I need something to eat." It's such a relief from 40 years of yo-yo dieting and a total obsession with food and eating.

There are tons of books on Amazon about Gastric sleeve. And just about any book about weight loss surgery will be helpful. I read everything I could find on the web, but found that I got more from the books written by other WLS patients.

By the way, it's been 11 weeks since my surgery. I am down 44 lbs, co morbidities resolved, and I feel fantastic!

Good luck in your journey. It's going to be amazing!

Hi, my name is Sonia & I'm a 38 year old mother of 2 living in Central, NJ. I was sleeved on 7/22/13 by Dr. Montes of NJ Bariatric Center in Springfield NJ. I was very nervous & wondered if I made the right decision. I even asked God that if this was not for me, please do not let the insurance give the approval. I got my confirmation that I the right thing at my post surgical follow-up. They found Mesothelomia in my stomach lining. Thank god it was benign but regardless I would have had to cut it out. This way I was prepared for losing part of my stomach & never had the worry of finding out if it was cancerous or not. When I found out biopsy results were already back & all was good. Dr. Montes had to tell me in the event it returns. Best decision I could have ever made.

I am about 3 years out and it was the best decisions have ever made. I always gained massive amounts in times of pain/ loss/depression and this has really helped. I am down about 110lbs currently and racing back toward goal after having a baby 9 weeks ago. Even with the depression of losing my father 2 weeks after delivery I am able to keep going because I no longer have the reaction to food I had always struggled with. No longer having the ability to binge has haunted that powerful obsession.

I wish you luck and can tell you the folks I know with revisions from band to sleeve have said they were very pleased :)

Hi, I am 5'4" and weighed 227 at the time of my surgery almost 8 months ago. I've lost 67 pounds since surgery. The first few weeks after surgery were trying. I was emotional and sometimes angry because I could smell the food around me but couldn't eat it. BUT after that I was able to start eating and everything changed. I eat like everyone else says (protein first, then vegetables and every so often, a little but of carbs). For me (and you'll find that a lot of the people on here say this) getting sleeved was the best thing I've ever done for myself. Good luck on your journey!

Please, anyone, tell me it gets better and easier and life gets back to "normal"... Sleeved July 22nd and have regretted the surgery since day one. Very depressed, not over food, just in general- for having the surgery. I feel I could have tried harder. I know, I didn't and I need to move on.. Problem is, I don't know how. Besides, I cannot stomach the Protein Shakes and am struggling getting in all my Water. All I do is cry and feel very dizzy and weak. I just want this to be over with and move on already. I need to get back to work. It will be a month tomorrow. The regret has overcome me.. Will it get easier? I don't even care about food, for I have to force myself to eat, or about losing weight at this point. .. Just need some advice, or someone that has experienced something similar... Anyone :((?

I was sleeved the same day. It's buyers remorse don't let it get you down. I sometimes question it but to be honest, even with all the discomfort (I can't get the chew & swallow small pieces down yet) I'm still happy. Without this surgery I would not have known I had a Mesothelomia tumor in the lining of my stomach. It was benign. I would not have gotten my hiatal hernia repaired as yet. I would not have lost the 23lbs post surgery as yet. Look at the glass 1/2 full vs. 1/2 empty. If you wanna talk call me 908-337-7388 my name is Sonia.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
