I don't know when I'm going to resist the urge to eat ice-cream knowing what it did to me the first time I ate it after surgery. The first time I had ice cream which was a month after surgery, I vomited the whole ice cream half way thru. Today, almost a month later, I had to try another ice cream and I still feel like something is stuck in my throat. When am I going to learn my lesson and stop eating ice cream? After all it's empty calories and I am doing so so good. I'm going to stop, I have to stop.

I have not had Ice Cream since surgery (almost 4 months out) but I do eat Ben And Jerry's frozen Greek yogurt to curb that craving. Maybe give that a try. The good thing is it has Protein in it!

It has Protein? Thanks, may be I can try that. The thing is that I don't even crave for it only because my job as a recreation therapist does ice cream social for the patients so its just staring me in the face. Thanks

Hmmm....you could always make you're own ice cream. Ice cream makers nowadays aren't too expensive. Try searching online for one you like. This way you could add whatever it is you like to it. Like, soy milk, lactose free....ummm...coconut milk etc. Add pieces of nuts or fruits....even chocolate (70-80% dark) etc. Skies the limit and you can keep your calories down by sweetening with stevia or xylitol or the other REAL non-sugar sweeteners.

If not.....have you tried frozen strawberry (or any fruit really) sorbet in the blender. I've done it before to smash on instead of ice cream. Served it's purpose. Was even better covered in shredded unsweetened coconut! Loved it!

Good luck.

Try eating yogurt instead. I discovered I am lactose intollerant to full fat milk and creams. I had part of a milk shake from McDonald's and by the time I drove from McDonald's to home I had to run to the bathroom it was projectile throw-up. I have read that this is common after bring sleeved to become lactose intollerant.

On the day you know you are having an ice cream social bring in some sugar free fudge pops. At 45 calories a serving you can have one and still feel like you are partaking in the festivities.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
