Wow where as the year gone? I had my surgery on August 1, 2012 and I wouldn’t change anything for the world. It has been by far the best decision of my life. My starting weight was 232 and now I am at 152. I have a new lease on life entirely. I have picked up running as my new hobby and to date I have participated in 4 – 5Ks, 1 – 8K and I am signed up for a 15K this Sunday and a ½ Marathon on Sept. 8th.

I was a size 18/20 when I started and now I am a size 8/10 depending on the designer/manufacturer. I never thought I would ever fit into a size 8 in my life! I can now shop in all of the stores I was embarrassed to walk into because of my weight and knowing I couldn’t fit into any of the clothes. My shoe size and hat size has gone down as well. I used to wear an 8 1/2 shoe and now I’m either an 8 or 7 1/2 depending on the shoe.

The response I get from people even strangers is night and day. It is a shame in some aspects because I get more attention and better customer service as a thin person than when I did as a heavy person. Men also treat me a lot differently which is a shame… Sorry guys I am married and have the best husband in the world. He loves me for me even when I was 232 pounds.

My hair has thinned a lot. I used to have VERY thick blond hair. I had a hard time wrapping a pony tail holder around it twice. Now I have a tiny little pony tail and I can wrap the pony tail holder around 4 or more times. I like to look at the positive, I used to pay my stylist to thin it for me and now I don’t have to worry about that. It’s much cooler in the summer and personally easier to style in general.

I have experienced all of these things within the first year. It’s kind of crazy and I wouldn’t change it for the world.

Lara

PS: I have attached a photo from my first race 5K. Yeah that's my sign on the marquee at Wrigley Field! Go Cubs!post-30134-13813668410053_thumb.jpg

And yes, its a shame how people begin treating u once ur skinny, but its their insecurities, not ours, nd they'll have to give an account of it one-day! You take care nd keep up the great work. Congrats. You look great. So proud of you and your accomplishments. Go Cubs. I am inspired. My family went to see the cubs one week after my surgery and I missed out. Next year I will not. I hope to be as successful as you. Good luck Sunday.

Congrats!! It's nice to read positive results of post-op's and look forward to getting mine done next month. The running has me very interested as well and have started jogging myself. Of course, it will be a lot easier following some weight loss,

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
