Three months post op over 40 lbs down and I still regret it. Always sick to my stomach and going out to dinner is horrible. My life will never be the same. I'm even more depressed than before.

I had a few thoughts of regret early on. Today I have finally just accepted that my life if different and always will be. I like myself better and nothing tastes as good as I look!

I'm so sorry you feel this way. I like the advice heatwhip gave you. On my bad days (haven't lost enough, feel sick, can't really keep anything down) I just tell myself hey I did this to myself and it is what it is. I know that's not too loving or "feel good" but it is my reality check.

Maybe you'll need a bit more time before you start to feel better about things. Do you have a Sleeve friend or even better a counselor you can talk to? Maybe someone years out or with experience in WLS issues that can be of help.

One thing I did as a pre-op (I'm a bit of a planner) is to look up the menus of all the places I like to go out to eat and find out the calorie/protein/fat content of the foods. I'd then pick a few I could have post-op if I ever went back there.

Once post-op (and finally able to keep some foods down) I tried a few (not many) at home and figured out what would work and what wouldn't for me. That way, I know what I can have that won't make me sick. I know it seems a bit tedius but I needed that because eating out (and making right choices) is part of my social life.

While I don't go out much, that has helped me feel a bit more normal.

Hang in there and I hope you feel better about things soon.

Hi Nani:

I'm so sorry that you're not feeling well and able to enjoy being sleeved. Did your doctor prescribe or suggest a PPI (like Prilosec) for after surgery? How about some home remedies like peppermint tea? You may have heard these before, I feel for you.

Be well.

Thats really too bad... I'm sorry you feel that way about your sleeve. Its good to hear both sides as I am pre op. Maybe its still to early out to tell?

I am sorry to hear about your feelings of regret. That has to be heart wrenching. It does get easier to eat out, and maybe the sick feeling is from eating to fast? I know I had a few episodes where I'd get sick, and it was usually from eating too much or too fast. I would definitely talk to someone though. The great news is 40 pounds! That's awesome!

Three months out is still so new. I'm 5 1/2 and still so new at this. In the early stages it is normal to mourn the loss of your "friend" food. But it does get better. It does get easier. Soon life as a sleever and eating becomes the new normal. Small bites chewed well will become your normal way of eating.

Maybe talking to a specialist who work with bariatric patients or something similar would help. Or a support group. Something so you don't feel alone in this journey.

But try to keep your head up. You are doing awesome!!

Has your surgeon dx why you're always sick to your stomach? Why is going out such a issue?

I know exactly how you feel about feeling depressed because you have noone that has been through it & noone understanding. That is exactly how I feel. I have my parents & my ex husband as support & lots of other family & friends but noone who has had this struggle or this surgery that I can sit down & talk to & who can say "I understand, I have been there myself" I do have a family memeber who has been dieting & busting his butt for 18 mths now & has lost 170 lbs on his own & he has been great to talk to but he lives so far away & still he has not had the surgery to know what types of things I am experiencing. He can stop what he is doing & do what he feels like when he feels like & then go back to dieting when he wants. This is a permanent life changing choice we have made, there is no changing our minds & going back to the way we used to be. But that is why this forum is here for us, to help us. I just wish there was a place to go to meet with people like us near where I live. We have a once a month support group @ our local hospital but sometimes you need more then that. Plus it is only an hour long & almost never have time to talk about what may be going on with you & get any feedback from others in the group. :(

I have no one that's been thru this and no one really understands.

We all need support when we "go out on a limb", and if you can't find it in the flesh, this forum is a pretty decent alternative. You might also want to post your town and see if you can locate people near to you - I've seen others do that.

If you feel nauseous a lot it's pretty hard not to feel depressed. I turn into a v crabby monster with sustained pain or nausea. So it will be worth while putting some time into trying to problem solve that.

I agree it could be eating too fast or getting up from the table quickly after eating - I need much more time to eat and digest than previously. This can be hard at work, when the kids are all demanding attention, or when you have an inflexible schedule.

Reflux can definitely make you feel unwell, and not always in the ways you expect. Are you on meds for that? Do you need a higher dosage than you're on?

I find eating sweet stuff can make me feel really nauseous, but not everything sweet. I find it hard to pinpoint, but it's only occasional for me so not a big issue. I've heard other people say the same thing about fatty foods.

I'm just a few days over 3 months out and eat out regularly, so far without problems. I wonder if it just feels too hard because you feel unwell. Park that one for now and concentrate on feeling better. Hopefully you'll find it's no longer an issue when you do.

Good luck with it all.

I'm only 8 days post op and am going through the remorse thing right now. I am really struggling with the liquid diet for all I've been able to have is strained cream of Soups and Protein Shakes. I have another week of the liquids before I can move to the pureed stage. I've had some thoughts of regret and wish I could have done this on my own without the surgery. I know it will all be worth it and it will just be another month before I can eat "normal" food again but I would give anything right now for a bite of chicken or a grilled cheese sandwich. I have been fortunate, though. So far I have had absolutely no problems with being sick or uncomfortable at all.

i am 14 months post op. if we are honest, i think that we all have that "what the hell did i do to myself" moment. i had it for a very brief time, and i am 'that sleever' that everyone hates. i had no complications, only 1 throw up (because i tried to do a whole serving of broth in 5 minutes 2 weeks out) and a pretty quick recovery. so, if someone like me had it, i can truly understand someone with any complications having it.

however, at 14 months out, my life is much better. i am 20 pounds away from what my surgeon told me was a 'lofty' goal. i am smaller than i was when i graduated high school, but i don't have that 'crack addict, sick' look. i am able to do all of the things that i couldn't but wanted to. and i eat like a normal person. i don't always make good food choices, but i always stay on track, because, i didn't do this for temporary weight loss. i did it to change me life. and it has helped me take control.

hopefully, you will learn what is causing your problem, and be able to use this to be a happier you. i truly hope that you come to love it as much as i have.

good luck in your journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
