Mashed potatoes were fine (on my program) at this stage. But I was told to avoid rice since it could swell in the sleeve...

my plan doesn't allow starchy carbs, like potatoes, rice, bread and Pasta, until at least 6 to 8 months post-op...I did, however, eat some watermelon at about a month out and should have waited another month...I also ate some almonds around that same time and should have waited a few more weeks...both foods gave me stomach issues after eating just a small quantity...but at 3 months post-op now, there isn't anything I've tried--including salad--that has given me digestive issues....all that being said, the best advice I can give, though, is to try to follow your NUT's or doctor's plan as closely as possible in these early stages

I had real mashed potatoes at about 3-4 weeks. It was all I could keep down...all tablespoon of it. But haven't had any since then because I know it gives me heartburn.

Yeah I'm guilty of doing that and no I wouldn't recommend others try their luck. i had chili about 5 days before I should have. It went down okay (I had about a 1/4 cup) but it could have gone badly.

Do what your doc days!

I made potato Soup tonight and thinned it out a bunch with skim milk. I guess I ate to fast/ to much/ maybe to early for my body. i only ate maybe 1/3-1/4 of a cup. But now I feel like I have something that comes up in my throat. I can't throw it up so I am praying that it goes down soon. I am scared that I might have hurt my staple line?? I am 6 days post op and like I said thinned cream Soups were on the list maybe potato soup isn't in that group... Help

I think it is normal and you ate too fast. I have that too (feeling it in my throat)but no pain. I am eating too quick and when I slow down this doesn't happen. I am 15 days post-op. Happens too when I moved to pureed the first couple if meals.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
