I was wondering how long everyone was out of work? I really can't take to much work off

I am taking 5 1/2 weeks, but mostly because I have the sick time saved up AND my job is very stressful. There is no way I can go back to work as tired and emotional as I am now. I know many people who go back after less than a week - it is up to you, and how you feel about being out of work.

Mine was considered part of FMLA. You might want to ask for the paperwork from your HR dept.

I had surgery on a the 17th and came back on the 29th. The original paperwork my doctor turned in was for three weeks but I did not need that much. I work for a pretty awesome boss who lets me be flexible while I finish recovering, and for that I know I am very, very lucky.

My surgeon wouldn't authorize anymore than 2 weeks, even though I have the time at work. I was hoping for 3, so I could at least get into the swing of eating soft foods. So my first day back at work will be my first day of puree/soft. Not ideal. Other than that, I feel fine. If I had a desk job I would have felt physically fine going back to work after 1 week off.

Because of low energy in 2nd week due to your body adjusting to its new minimal calorie intake, I'd recommend 2 weeks. I thought I had taken off too much time when my 2nd week started, but as I ran errands, etc. I realized how easily I was fatigued.

I took 4 weeks because mine is a traveling job, and I couldn't lift my suitcase. I needed every day of that 4 weeks!

My surgeon has recommended 2-4 weeks but unfortunately the timing is bad at work and I'm only going to be off a week. We'll see.

I took 8 weeks off. I am an RN in labor and delivery and it can be very physical. I would not have been able to do my job with only a couple of weeks off. Every person is different because of the type of jobs we have. It takes a lot to try and get a woman to push a baby out. Not the same as doing a desk job. I work overnight too and 12 hour days!

I actually got laid off the Friday before my Monday surgery. Just started a new job this week so I was able to have 7 weeks off which is really good because I also have a job which is very physical and am on my feet all day.

I took 2.5, but I have a friend who took just a little over a week. We both did fine with RTW. I needed to get back to a structured routine.

Megacd -I'm in the same boat as you and really only can take off a week, but I can work from home for a couple of days

I only have a week off, hoping I can manage when I get back, I have a job where I'm on my feet about half the day, so fingers crossed that I can get back to it without feeling too drained, going to really work on my water/protien intake to help with the fatigue ,,I pretty much figure the first week back I will be going to bed as soon as I get home from work!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
