Stories we tell...how do you not "lie" without saying you had WLS?

Recommended Posts

Just tell them what you are doing but leave out the surgery part. You can call it the "Eat like you've had bariatric surgery" diet.

If they ask you how you lost your weight and you want to put them on a bit tell them you haven't lost any weight' date=' you are just testing out a prototype of a partial cloaking device.[/quote']

My best friends husband lost a ton of weight really quickly, and I know for a fact that he however did not have surgery to do it. I don't see him very often, but I see her practically every day, (we work together). So when I saw him for the first time after he had lost so much I said "WOW! _ _ _ _ ! How did you do it?! He just smiles and said " eat less, move more" . His answer worked for me just fine, I never question it one bit. Later on I thought about what he said and the same answer will also hold true for me or anybody else after WLS. We will most definitely be eating less and should be exercising a good bit. So I have decided when I do have my surgery and people begin to ask whats up, I'm going to simply smile like he did, hold up 2 fingers and say " #1 eat less, #2 move more." It will not be a lie and I am NOT obligated to hold up a third finger and say " oh yeah, I almost forgot #3, go have weight loss surgery"

Now that I have told everyone I want tell amongst friends and family, if anyone else comments on my weight loss or what I eat, I say I had stomach surgery earlier in the year and I eat smaller portions. All true. To date, no one has asked me anything beyond that....

I tell them I'm eating healthier, smaller portions, gave up drinking beer & all alcohol except wine. I also tell them that I'm in the gym at 5 am 4 days a week & have a personal trainer. All true, I just don't mention the surgery part because its personal.

Think of all the endorsements that celebrities do. Oh, yeah, I look like a walking dream because I use Dove Beauty Bar. Not mentioned is the $150. an hour make-up artist on call night and day.

For me, it's different. I tell everyone that I had weight loss surgery and that it was the best thing I ever did for myself. Even everyone at work. They all see how hard I work at eating & drinking right and they see me stay away from the constant treats that are brought in from Consultants. I've gotten lots of compliments from them and lots of questions from other overweight people about the surgery. If me telling everyone helps some people decide to do it for themselves, I would feel really good about that since I feel it gave me a quality life back.

I tell people that I have had too completely change the way that I look at food, which is absolutely the truth.

I'm an open book, I really do not care who knows or judges me, because I did it for no one but me and health and well being.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
