I am not an everyday smoker, but was wondering if you guys have had any problems / complications related to having an occassional cig?

I truly enjoy having an ultra ultra lite Cig (Capri) with my glass of wine in the evening.... I really need it now, that I am - 2 weeks pre-op.

Help anyone ?

THANKS!

Don't- particularly pre-op if your surgeon hasn't already said it- Quit pre-op because I knew how bad it was and was told I had to- I'm/was a serious smoker- to say now that i'm not struggling - one month now since being banded would be lying- I've probably smoked about a week in the month- I don't know which is more difficult- some days the food- some days the cigarettes- I'm using the patch most days and the gum when necessary- Everyone says "you can't smoke and wear the patch or and chew gum" I found the web site of a doctor in california who says do what ever you have to to quit- use it all- just be careful- What I will tell you is the 4 days in a row I smoked I was more tired, had to stop while I was walking and had more difficulty breathing - I know you have heard it all before but try- it will be worth it - as I sit here and am dying for 1- know it wouldn't be one but rather one after another and by this afternoon the pack would be done - Good luck

Hi,

I am also waiting for surgery. I have quit smoking because of a former experience. A few years ago I had a biopsy. No one told me to stop smoking. It wasn't healing properly so I went back to the surgeon. He said you are smoking. I said, yes, no one told me not to. He said, the skin doesn't "blend" back together nearly as smoothly as when you are not smoking. I had an infection under the incision that had to be cleaned out, then it healed. That is what I remember so I guit this time. I don't know how little you smoke. I was down to 1/2 pk. a day. Ask your doctor if two a day is OK. Good luck. Nanaviv

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
