How far out are you? If you are early but doing everything right like taking small sips and it still hurts, I would call your doctor. It shouldn't hurt to drink.

I had surgery yesterday.. My Dr wants me on Protein drinks pretty much only for 3 weeks... It hurts. Maybe I'm taking too big of drinks? I drank a whole Protein Drink this morning and it didn't feel good. But my nurse told me to drink it. I tried slow but she kept coming in checking and she gave me a ton of meds to take at the same time. Now when I drink it hits hard then gets all gassy and even my liquid medicine hurts.. I think I'm drinking too much too fast :(

Every doctor and hospital does it differently, but all I had for the first 7 days was clear liquids. When I did move on to Protein drink it was 3 oz at a time, Your new tummy does not have room for all the pills and an entire anything ! I would agree too much too fast.

In the hospital the day after surgery they had me sip 1 oz of nectar Protein (so basically like drinking water) until I could work up to drinking it in 15 mins. I was on clear liquids when I got home.

That's what I thought... I am trying not to regret this but my tummy hurts super bad. Think I'm gonna lay off much of anything but sips of Water and maybe sf Popsicles until it feels better.

Usually the first few days you really aren't able to get a lot down. After a couple of days it gets better, but it takes a while. It took me an hour to get a whole Protein shake down in the beginning.

It doesn't sound like that nurse has much experience with sleeve patients. Just take it easy. It will get better!

The first week is tough no matter how you slice it,

Take in small sips, and when your doctor comes in talk to him about it.

And get up walk, walk every hour you may not want to but it will help all the gassiness too.

Are you on an acid reducer. Doctor gave me liquid Prevacid, which really helped. You can also find chewable Pepcid at Walgreen's. Sounds like acid is getting to you.

Good luck and hang in there. It's going to be amazing!

I puked every time I tried to drink for the first 3 days. Don't feel bad if you can't down a whole Protein drink :)

I am on carafate I believe... And I am home already they just kept me one night. I drank 1 and a quarter Protein drinks and Water. Had ice chips all day yesterday and felt fine... All I wanna do is cry. I can't get comfortable in my bed the couch or recliner... I'm feeling rather puky after taking my liquid pain meds...

I did an oz. every 15 minutes. No gulping, just sips. My Doc had me on Protein Drinks right away to. They keep the nausea away if you drink them slowly. Hope you feel better!

Are you walking? every hour you are awake you should walk 10 minutes at least even if its just around the house.

So an ounce over 15 minutes.. Not the whole ounce in one shot every fifteen minutes. I think I will finish the night with sipping on a propel and maybe a sf Popsicle. Tomorrow is a new day as long as I get some sleep.< /p>

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
