Hi all,

I had my surgery July 23rd.

I did not meet the weight requirements, but I had an early onset of Diabetes at 29, after having had PCOS. I have been losing weight for years. When I successfully became pregnant, my weight peaked. I have been losing weight since the day she was born 7 years ago. I have been fortunate enough to maintain the weight loss over the years. But, last November, for the first time in years, my A1c was out of control. Neither my eating not my exercise habits had changed. I've always followed the diabetes eating plan which was why I believe I was successful at weight loss and maintaining it. My world crashed as I realized I am only 42 and have a young daughter. I know insulin is the next step to complications. I was already on 3 medications. I also had high blood pressure and low "good" cholesterol, though my bad cholesterol was fine. I also have hypothyroidism.

Anyway, my endocrinologist suggested the sleeve. So, here I am! My goal of this surgery is to reverse my diabetes so I can live a long, healthy life for my lil munchkin.

I've been very fortunate. I'm feeling very good just a week out. Very little nausea and the pain is starting to subside. I had a great Doctor out of Dallas and I'm following his plan without fail which is why I think I've had such a positive experience. I'm off 2 of my Diabetes meds and my blood pressure med. My glucose levels are getting closer to normal than ever.

I know I'm a newbie and I'm sure I'll make some mistakes, I've been reading this site for a couple of months. You all have been instrumental in keeping me motivated and positive. I hope to contribute going forward. Thank you. You've helped me without even knowing it!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
