Regained weight, scared, need support :(

Recommended Posts

Boy do I know how you feel. You think you're going to get this band and everything will be different because your whole mindset will change. It's a crushing blow to find yourself struggling with those same old food issues again. I'm in that boat right now. I posted about something similar yesterday and the responses I got told me one very important thing: no matter what happened yesterday or over the last six months, do NOT give up.

I could have written you post myself. I have been eating badly since the holidays. I am sure I have gained about 5lbs but am terrified to get on the scale. My mother's stupid friend saw me today (haven't seen her since Christmas) and says "tell me how much weight have you lost total", I said "nothing", meaning none since the last time I saw her. The she says "you know that's not normal". I wanted to haul off and punch her. She continues, "that not normal, your fu**ing up, aren't you?" Then she tries to be supportive, "I know you can do it". I was like, "look, this is a two-year plan" and ended it there. Meanwhile, she's larger than life and struggled her whole life with her weight, so I don't see where she gets the balls to question me. I know she just cares, but shit, I'm so sick of people looking and watching me to see what's happening, it just makes me feel like an even bigger failure. I can't stand it! Anyway, I'm so glad you are back on track. I need to get off my big butt and exercise, but have been feeling very depressed lately and have no desire to do so. I started back on my prozac today, I stopped taking it about 2 months ago, I thought I could do without it, but apparently, I cannot. Hang in there, I am.

It's Gotta to Go

I hear your cry. My girl cousins seem to have nothing better to do than to ask how much weight I've lost everytime they see me. I really hate it, because in reality I haven't lost any in 3 months. It's my fault though, because I need to exercise and eat smaller portions.

**UPDATE**

I am so depressed again. I lost no weight in this last week eventhough I have been working out everyday. Maybe I am gaining muscle?? I am doing weight training. You guys, I know I ask so much but I need support yet again. My weight loss has stalled in the past week and I am working out SOOOOOOOO hard. 1 hour a day... :) I cried today because having no reward in the past week has been an emotional drain. I am so depressed about this I can barely lift my head. (I did work out today though)

Especially doing weight training you are probably gaining muscle for sure. Did you happen to take your measurements? Are you clothes loser? They say not to go by the scale which I know is hard. There are body builders that no kidding weight 175 lbs but are size 10. Its the truth. Good luck. Don't be depressed. The weight will come off, just be patient.

:update:

Ok, so I wanted to let you guys know where I am now. I've been working out 5 days a week for the last 8 weeks. I am still not back to the weight I want to be but I am getting SO close I can taste it!! My body is looking very different though. I am much more tone and I look slimmer! So all and all I've lost 16 pounds in the last 8 weeks. Two pounds a week isn't too bad.

I need to lose two more lbs this week!!

Now that you are toning and doing resistance training, you will be gaining muscle, remember that muscle weighs much more than fat for the same mass. So while you are getting slimmer and toning the scale won't budge a lot. And that's okay. You are healthier. Muscle burns about 50 times as many calories than fat, so the more muscle you have, the more calories you will burn (I'm watching "You on a Diet" with Dr. Michael Roizen right now and he just mentioned that fact).

What a great thread! I am so "there". I've been within 5 pounds of my current weight since January. Got a new resolve in March and got down to 183. Back up to 188.5.

With the "insights" I've gotten on this thread, I'll start again. I'm 29 pounds from the goal weight my surgeon suggested.
