Regained weight, scared, need support :(

Recommended Posts

There I was on top of the world. Then I kinda just stopped weighing and ate what I wanted for the past 6 months. I knew I had gained some weight when I noticed a few pairs of pants fitting snugly. Then....my husband mentioned it...He may as well have stabbed me in the heart with a flaming dagger. I was crying and upset, boy did he feel stupid.

I refuse to change my weight on my profile because I will have this weight off in a month. I SWEAR. I am up about 18 pounds. Today me and my husband joined a gym and I worked out for the first time since I got my band. It actually felt really good and I have my work out bag all packed for tomorrow. I am going to go every single day until I get to goal weight. I just can't let the weekend spoil me. NO WAY.

I am so depressed guys. Why have I gone through all this just to gain weight? And it's TOTALLY my fault. I was drinking beer all the time (like 5 times a week) eating chocolate, ice cream, eating lots of mushy stuff, Jack in the Box tacos, Taco Bell, "eating around the band," and pretty much sitting in my recliner whenever I am home from work. I am stressed because now I know it's possible to gain weight back with the band if you're not careful. I mean how could you eat like I was eating and expect not to gain weight?? Don't get me wrong, my band helps me immensely. I only gained 17 pounds eating like that everyday for 6 months, I deserved to have gained like 30-40 pounds. My band still limits what foods I can eat, what time of day I can eat, and the amount I can eat. I love my band and would be in SOOOOO much more trouble without it. But this is just a grim reminder that I have to watch it. I cannot depend on my band to do everything because I need to stay active and eat healthy. I need encouragement. Has anyone elsed had a setback like this?? How did you handle it??

I am going to eat a banana, they're only like 100 calories right?? :welldone:

I know how you feel. I have been banded 6 months and have not lost much. My carb addiction got ahold of me and kept the lbs on. Now I am hoping that with a new year, I will start again, and will catch up with the other "Junebies".

Keep your head up, get focused. You can do it!

I am SO PROUD OF YOU, Hamu, for recognizing the problem and getting it under control when you'd only gained 17 lbs. That's an incredible testiment to the band. The last time I lost weight without the band, I lost 91 lbs and then gained 100 back in 6 months. I'm so happy for you that you were able to stop the cycle before you even really changed a size in clothes.

You're going to knock 'em dead and be at goal before you know it. Honestly, I think this is kind of a NSV in itself. "Normal" people gain 10 or 15 lbs, realize it, lose it, all the time. Get it under control now and you know what to do.

Way to go. I think your post is fabulous!

I know how you feel - I put on about 10 lbs and could not get it off, lose a pound, gain a pound......

I went to the doctor and have started Phentermine 37.5 mg. Along with that I am eating healthy:

Protein shake for breasfast

small lunch

small dinner (usually fish)

no snacking and no carbs

I have lost 6 lbs since starting and feel much better.

I am not recommending drugs by any means just telling you what I am doing.

Good Luck

Lauren

It's good that you're taking the necessary steps now. Good for you! I know that I'm actually at a point now that I don't feel well if I don't exercise. That's certainly a change from my former couch potato self. It's so true that the band doesn't work if you don't put forth the effort. We're here to support one another...don't forget that as well.

It sounds like you have recomitted yourself, that is the first step. I would change your ticker and be truthful with yourself moving forward. You can do this. If you need a fill go get one. You can be back on track today. Keep the faith. You can do this.

I have so been there!

I gained quite a bit of weight last year and eventually got back on track and now have lost it and more. You are doing good things-exercising, etc.

I, for one, think you did well for only gaining 18 pounds eating all that junk! I bet you enjoyed it and are now ready to get serious.

Thank you so much for posting about your experiences. I think it's important for all of us to realize that yes, you *can* regain weight with the lap band. But, the good news is that the band is still there, and when you're ready to "work" it, it will help you get back on track!

Congratulations, and good luck on reaching your goals!

Tami

Hamu,

I am so proud for you.

First because you shared your mistakes with us.

Second because your husband could point it out to you even though it hurt you (he helped you get back on track with only 18 lbs)

Third YOU ARE DOING US BANDSTERS PROUD NOW

I'm patting you on the back

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
