Things I love! (and some I don't)

Almost 8 weeks post-op, and these are the things I love about my sleeve:

1) NOT being on a diet. Eating things I love like lean meat, fish, chicken, cheese, yogurt, and comfort foods like chili, cream Soups, omelets and tortilla pizzas!

2) Knowing if my Protein intake is a little low one day, there is a quick fix available with Protein powder or if I'm hungry it's ok to have a piece of cheese.

3) Not missing sweets and carbs..... at least not yet.

4) Feeling satisified with small amounts of food.< /p>

5) Looking forward to being off meds for high blood pressure, high cholesterol and c-pap machine.

6) Watching the scale go down. 47 pounds so far!

Things I don't love:

1) Watching the clock to get meals and liquids in.

2) Taking Vitamins and supplements

3) Many foods taste different than before. Takes some time to learn what is worth preparing and what isn't

The minor inconveniences are nothing compared to the benefits of being sleeved! For the first time in many years I an encouraged and hopeful. Are you feeling the same way?

As for me, I'm still not at the "loving" stage because I just graduated to pureed foods (oh joy!) But I hope I can find all the happiness you found in #1-6!

Agree with watching the clock. It's something that requires effort & I just want things to be easy. I hope I'm at least down 47 by my 8th week. That's awesome!!

Thanks so much, Pixie Dust! You'll get there. My 47 lb. loss includes 19 during 2 week

pre-op low carb diet. I'm sure it'll slow down, but it's nice for now. :)

Great post!!

I'm also loving not missing carbs and having very little cravings. The one thing I've been craving is steak, but I'm trying to hold off on that. I quite surprised that I am so satisfied by the food and the amount I can eat. It's such a relief!!

My biggest con: having to plan so much ahead, but its really helpful to do so.

soon you won't be watching the clock..it will become second nature to you...Your post was encouraging..I feel the same way..10 months out I no longer look at the clock!

I'll add something to this: Things I Miss. At 3 years out (surgiversary in July), I no longer experience some of the honeymoon wonders of VSG. I miss being stuffed to the gills after only 1 scrambled egg, I miss the straight up disregard for food, the lack of desire. I miss weight just sliding off, like clockwork, no matter what else was going on I could step on that scale every other day and I would be down a pound a half.

But there are still things I love: I love that I can do a reset, I can go back to mushies/liquids/low cal and after 3 days my restriction is back. I love that I can order a normal portion of food when I'm out with my friends and not secretly wanting more or ordering big dishes plus appetizers plus dessert, instead I order 1 item, eat 1/3 of it, and have great leftovers for the next 2 days!

I love being able to drink a Protein Shake and be genuinely full from it. I love that, even on so called non-stop eating days when I feel like a grazing cow, I'm still only taking in about 1200 calories.

I love that, even though head hunger is a real issue this far out, I also have learned the tools to cirmumvent my brain. If the sneaky brain wants to make me eat uncomtrollably, I can be clever too - when I feel that sort of thing coming on, I quckly stuff myself with raw salad greens, baked or boiled chicken, and cheese - and don't drink. These foods have proven to be stickers with me, as opposed to sliders. Hopefully I can head off the psychological food anxiety at the pass and by the time the food has digested, I'm no longer in danger of making a grievous error.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
