Annoyied. I've finished all my Options classes through Kaiser but I lagged on doing my Psych evaluation. If it were done prior to finishing my pre-op classes I probably would already have my final meeting with the Surgeon and a step away from getting my surgery date. This is just going to push everything further out. I'm scared because I've only lost 5 pounds during my pre-op weight loss classes and I don't want to gain those back since now I'm basically on my own without support from my classmates. It sucks. It's so damn easy to put on the weight but so hard to loose. =(

I went through Kaiser but on the other side of the country. I could not even register for my first class (with the Nut) before my psych eval. As far as I know the psych evals are the same for all of Kaiser.

Mine was done by phone and I was asked about 15 starter questions. It was not as intense and some where you have to meet face to face and answer over 100 questions. Call your Nut and ask if you can just schedule your eval now.

Don't get frustrated, you've done a great job. To put things into perspective, I finished my 6 months in 7 months (they were lazy with getting my paperwork done - so I had to take matters into my own hands), then I spent another 5 months waiting for a surgery date. I was told the wait for the surgeon was at least a year so I switched and could not have been happier.

Had I been scheduled when I first was approved, I would have missed out on my great surgeon. Relax, and realize most of us have had some set back, you can do this.

Also, during the time of my pre-op process, I kept tracking my food and as if I would still meet with my Nut. I didn't gain anything back (even when I went on vacation). Keep watching what you eat and you'll do great.

See if you can get an appointment as soon as possible. Let them know if you are willing to fill in for a cancellation at the last minute. With vacations etc., it might be worth a shot.

Good luck, stay the course and do the best you can!

I think on the west coast Kaiser moves a lot faster. I also, had a long wait that was going to be even longer if I had not start fussing and demanding other options. I was almost at six months waiting on a date.. until another Kaiser patient told me to try to change hospitals. I called they said no... then I went off. two days later I got the call with a date for the same hospital. They were telling me I would have to wait another 5-6 months after I have already waited 6 months! But things worked out great in the end and now I'm back to loving Kaiser! LOL Just waiting for Sept.9th

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
