Good "Phase 4" Eating Plan?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone's nut's/surgeons have a really good phase 4 eating plan? (IE 'normal' foods). My nut laid out phase 0-3 very clearly, but phase 4 just basically says, you can't eat much, so eat healthy... I prefer a 'bit more structure. Any thoughts?

I was told basically start out eating a few things, and record what you can keep down. Then work from there.

You need to make sure most of your meal is Protein and then healthy, non starchy veggies and fruit. For example, finely ground tuna, chicken or egg salad (no onion or celery and low fat mayo), shrimp, scallops, and white fish. You can have well cooked veggies, but not pureed. That stage is for about 2 wks. Hope that helps a little. Good luck to you!

Make sure you get in as much Protein as possible, I didn't and my hair started falling out. eggs, fish, chicken, Almonds, veggies, fruit. I personally stay away from any starchy foods. I hear people say you can have them again a tiny bit, but I think of it like smoking, why start back?

Agreed! I'm not doing bad carbs anymore. I have a brand new expensive belly that I had to pay out of pocket, I'm not going to put garbage in it.

My surgeon's plan is:

meal size of 4 - 5 ounces

eat Protein first, then veggies or fruits

no more than 2 Snacks per day, no grazing

sit down to eat either a snack or a meal, no eating while standing up or walking (practice mindful eating)

avoid except in very rare instances: sweets, starchy veggies such as corn, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and peas, and grain-based foods.

I'm 9 weeks out. I basically eat Protein and a little veggies. But I'm finding it hard to give up my oatmeal. I cook two servings at a time so I can have a break in cooking...do the same with eggs and cream of wheat. What did your dr say about calorie limits? Mine said between 600-800. I've been sticking to that. Easy to do because I'm never hungry. Basically I eat by the clock because if I don't. I'd even eat less. Ive lost 1 pound a week since surgery, 20 the months before with the South Beach Phase one. I'm thinking I'm not eating enough calories. Ill bring it up to my dr in two weeks. But was curios about you all do.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
