ok question about preop diet

On preop diet and some postop why is it important to have only Clear Liquids? Why couldn't u have small amounts of pureed vegatles and small pieces of meat especially preop...just a question guys

It's to shrink your liver and after surgery you won't be able to handle regular food. You will have to do liquid diet for a couple weeks after to get your stomach use to that and then you will slowly progress to puréed stage then to regular food stage

I had a clear diet 24 hours before surgery. I imagine it could get dangerous cutting your stomach and something still being in there. I also had a clear diet the day I was in the hospital. I was released on full fluids (which did not include meat or veggies).
