Mira77 5 Posted July 29, 2013 Today I did my consent for surgery with my surgeon. During my abdominal ultrasound they saw a small < 1 cm polyp on my gall bladder. So today he said he would like to remove it (the gall bladder) during the VSG procedure. This is not a stone. My husband and mother are both freaked out by the idea of two procedures; I feel like if it would save me issues down the road why not? I definitely need to check to see how this will affect my insurance. I was approved by Aetna for the VSG only. I would appreciate any thoughts? Thanks!!! Btw surgery is on August 13th. . I don't know about how it would affect your insurance approval, but it's not terribly uncommon to have your gallbladder removed at the same time as the sleeve being done. I think some doctors also like to do it because it is a preemptive strike against gallbladder issues down the road, which is really common for WLS patients. I already had my gallbladder out when I had my sleeve done, but a couple of people I know had their gallbladder out at the time of the sleeve surgery. It took them a little longer to recover and they described a little more pain that people who had the sleeve alone, but otherwise, they haven't had any issues. Good luck! ~Kat 1 kw2walker reacted to this
kw2walker 211 Posted July 30, 2013 The materials provided to me from my doctors office and the research I did showed it is rather common to remove the gallbladder.
