How did you sleep after surgery?

Recommended Posts

I'm just wondering how did you sleep after surgery? Did you rent a hospital bed and sleep in it?

I just remember after my gallbladder surgery last year, I couldn't even sleep on my bed at all for 2 months. I had to sleep on the couch with tons of pillows behind me and had to sleep sitting almost straight up.

Hi I had my surgery this last wed. I have been sleeping in my bed. I just have a pillow under half of my back and a 2 pillows under my head. I can only sleep on my back right now but at least I'm in my own bed. Good luck!!

For the 1st week I had to be propped up like in the hospital bed. I rolled up one of my comforters and used it to lay against and keep me at the right angle. I think I was able to stop using it after the 2nd week.

Slept on back at first for a week and then on side after returning home the next week. It took about 3 weeks until sleeping on stomach. For the first few nights in hospital, sleeping at all sucked. Too many nurses, doctors and beeps in the middle of the night, plus you just feel cruddy. Sorry to be blunt, but that is the truth. I have had some insomnia in the last year every few months, but nothing that could not be handled with a sleep aid or a little melatonin. My recommendation is to sleep as much as you can in the first week to help the healing process along. Continue to try and get 8-10 hours a night until you feel yourself again. For most, this could be anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months. It all depends on your energy levels and how well you heal up inside. Take it easy and let people around you wait on you for the first month. Good luck!

I slept in a recliner for a week, then was able to sleep on my back but I was achey when having to get up and use my stomach muscles. Side sleeping came about a week later. I'm not a stomach sleeper so that wasn't an issue for me.

I had my gallbladder out the month before being sleeved and the recovery for both was similar (except in diet) Good luck!

I was in the hospital for the first (almost) week. Then I slept in my bed propped up. My hubby brought me a wedge pillow. I would get up and walk almost every 4 hours due to the horrible pain I had. So right as my body was getting uncomfortable, it would be time to walk again.

I was able to sleep flat, either on my side or on my back from the very first night with no issues. I'm not a stomach sleeper, but I imagine that would have been a no-go. Otherwise, I had no discomfort in any position, once I got into position, of course.

I slept on my back with a body pillow under my back propping my right up. I was sort of on a 45 degree angle. Laying in your left side helps gas escape easier plus, when it was time to get up, it was easier to roll myself out of bed from this angle. I did that from night one! By night 4, I was sleeping on my tummy as usual.

I slept a LOT. Mostly in the bed on my back--- which kind of sucked because I am a fetal-position sleeper normally. I knew I was healing when I woke up and had rolled onto my side while sleeping :) ...that was within about 5 or 6 days from surgery.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
