Okay so I am 3 weeks out (almost). I went back to work 5 days after surgery (desk job). I have cooked my family dinner every night since day 3 and we have eaten as a family. No one knows about my surgery except my husband. My kids just think I was sick for a few days and then went on a 3 week cleanse right after. They have noticed I am not eating much at one time but they haven't thought much about it. My husband helped me grocery shop the first two weeks. I went alone today. I am averaging 6k to 10k on my fitbit without added exercise. On the long days my incisions do get a little sore.

I can't wait for purée I have been on liquid almost 3 weeks now. I really don't feel hungry, just kind of dispassionate if that makes sense. Sometimes I do feel an empty feeling that's usually when I am short on Protein for the day. I have lost 20 pounds and already feel a thousand times better. The first 24 hours were rough, I slept mostly the next 48 hours. I do get tired by the evening, but other than that I have been great. I don't regret any of it.

I am working on some behavioral therapy to help this tool really work for the long run and make permanent changes.

I was self pay and had no insurance so I am so eternally grateful to be complication free thus far.

I was wondering about how long off work too. My doc says 2 weeks. I haven't had the surgery yet. Should hear back from insurance by the end of the week. I am a paralegal/legal assistant, so most of my day is in front of the computer. Would love to hear from others about how long they were off.

How did u go back to work after 5 days? I'm 6 days post surgery n in discomfort. My doc said minimum out of work 3 weeks.

Everyone is different. I was out for a month, could not imagine even being out of bed more than 2 hours at 6 days. But, there are some who were back to work quickly. All of us heal differently.

I went back to work after 1 week, but I felt fine by day 5. Felt like my old self, tons of engery, and just really really good. I even went and got a massage that day. Everybody heals differently. My surgeon's take was just do what you can do and if it hurts or feels bad, don't do it.

went back to work 6 days after surgery.. desk job.. I had no issues either.. Everyone IS different so if you are covered by ins then let the DR guide, if you are prepay then your body and pocketbook will have to guide you :)

went back to work 5 days after surgery

Chaotic

glad things are moving along well :)

back to your "normal" routine..........walking, shopping, cooking, working at the office, taking care of the family :)

you are awesome :)

understandable that you might get a little tired

but.......try not to be superwomen

you had major surgery

its still ok to pamper yourself a bit - even after 3 weeks :)

taking "care" of the family - this can be overwhelming

maybe slow down a "bit"

looking forward to puree :)

understandable after 3 weeks being sick of only drinking

glad you are so happy - and love your sleeve

wishing you well on your journey towards health, happiness and a long life :)

i know you will continue to do great :)

congrats on losing 20 lbs

continued good luck

kathy

Going back to work wasn't difficult for me. The hardest thing for me was my bra. I wear a 38G rather ill fitting right now because they are kind of small. The wire sat on my incisions and it was very uncomfortable. I was tired by the evening but overall it wasn't difficult. Just make sure you have a comfy ( not tight) waist band too. :)

Thanks proudgrammy for the advice. I had my 3 week follow up today and I was told to start walking a mile a day with weights. Integrating exercise will definitely be my challenge. I already feel like I am going every minute of the day. But I gotta figure it out. Thank you for the well wishes.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one. I too have a big chest and I could not get my bra on (hurt too bad). Then I tried to wear a Spanx (not the really restrictive one) that had a shelf bra built in. The entire day I had horrible heart burn.

When I got home, I took it off and heartburn literally went away immediately. Pre-op that undershirt was a joke (didn't hold a thing in place), it took getting the sleeve for it to finally do something worth the money. Too bad it also gives me heart burn now.

How are you doing? I had my sleeve on the 31st, and I am planning on going back to work on the 7th. My dr said I should be able to since I just have a desk job and if every thing goes ok! I really think ill be okay!

Good luck. It was very doable. Just listen to your body, it knows best.

I had a rough time post surgery, so I'm probably not typical. (Last year had my gallbladder out and went back after 5 days) I had a total of 6 weeks off work and one week of half time work. I've been back for 2 weeks and am totally exhausted by the end of the day. I work in radiology in a hospital and the job requires some physical work.

I just wanted to post since not everyone feels terrific and ready to hop back on the life merry-go-round 3 days post surgery. Listen to your doctor and follow his instructions and if you need more healing time don't be afraid to ask!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
