3 month surgery aniversary.

Recommended Posts

Lost 63 pounds since surgery. A year ago I was almost 300 hundred pounds. Got down to 280 just before surgery. Now I'm 217. Been losing approximately 4 pounds a week. Working out a ton. No stalls so far. About 30 pounds to goal. Is this what you consider an expected response to surgery? My nutritionist indicated that I should be losing only 1 pound a week after 1 month out. That hasn't been the case. I'm not complaining, I feel great. Though people who haven't seen me in months think I have suffered some kind of serious illness.

Congrats to u:). U look gr8! When did u have surgery? Nd the dox know that everyone's loss is different, ur body knows best so if its 4 woohoo, or 1 woohoo, ur losn nd that's awesome. And as long as ur labs are lookin good, whose complaining:). And for a typical weight loss, 2#'s per week is the healthy norm for non wls people...so just njoy as long as ur following ur plan, labs are good nd ur feeling good. It'll taper as it needs too:). I had surgery April 29th. Dr. Nussbaum from the Obesity Center of New Jersey performed the procedure. Couldn't ask for a better surgeon. 2 grand in labs came back perfect. Cholesterol dropped from a high of 300 to 105. I'm off 4 meds since surgery. I was approaching type 2 Diabetes, that's no longer the case. Even more important is that the depression and anxiety I have suffered with for years has subsided significantly, and I can actually sleep through the whole night. I do have an obsession with losing weight now. I question everything I put in my mouth. If I can't work out on a particular day, I worry about it until I can work out and feel great relief. Hopefully, I find some moderation with this lifestyle.

congrats on the progress. I have not had WLS yet, but from what I have seen in my reading is that people lose weight (100 lbs in a year or less) at 1# a week people would never reach that.

After 3 months, how is your quality of life? Do you feel normal? I am nervous to do this because I am fearful that I may never be the same again. Obviously that is the point, but I am fearful I will do something that is irreversible with regret.

This surgery quite literally saved my life. I would do it again in a heartbeat. My quality of life has never been better. I was a mess when I was terribly obese, had pretty much given up on life. This is my second chance, I'm going to try like heck not to screw it up!

Hi, I've not had it yet either but I'm lookin soooo forward to it. No date yet, the hoops still:( id like to pose these questions on u...y r u wanting to lose weight, do u have comorbs, y did/are u choosing wls instead of dieting, what do u want to achieve by losing weight? Ok, its so normal to have the feelings that u r experiencing, if we didn't, we'd b crazy bc it is major nd its 85% of our tummy removed. The questions posed are not meant to be smart assey, if that's a word, by no means but to just help u clarify y this surgery is a choice for u. I hope uve gone to the seminars nd pre surgery nutritions nd psych appts. If uve not gotten to those steps, well rest assured, they all will help u feel better one way or the other about your final decision. If uve had those steps nd are still unsure, talk again w therapist nd know that the ultimate decision is urs nd its YOU who has to b sure nd ready to make lifestyle changes concerning the surgery nd ur health. Whether u have wls or dieting again, we know that a change has to be made. Pray on it as I do and have, everyday, do ur research as much as u need and know that whatever choice u make, ur putting u first. Good luck:))

DeezJeanz, I don't want to hijack this thread and turn SHOOTA's celebration into a counseling session so I tried to answer your questions here.

Congrats Shoota. It looks like you are well on your way to your 2nd chance.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
