11 days post op - scared I can eat alot

Recommended Posts

I'm 11 days post op today. Tried a scrambled egg, went down fine no problems. i waited 15 minutes then ate about 1 tablespoon of hummus then a no sugar added fudgesicle. Here's the scary part. I'm not even close to full. I see all these people that can't even get 1/2 of an egg down and are throwing up and are soooo full from a sip of Protein Shake. I'm freaked that I went through with this surgery for nothing. I've lost about 15 lbs since day of surgery but this is my first day with real food other than Soups and Protein Shakes which of course i havent had a problem with intake amounts. I'm really scared that ill be able to eat normal with no problem. Of course I'm not going to attempt to push limits as I'm healing inside but WTF? Is this a normal thing and feelings?

It does seem like a lot for 11 days out, I was still on full liquids. Should you be eating eggs at this point? Don't push it and eat too much your stomach is in a major healing phase and this has an effect on how full you feel.

I agree with Amazon. At 11 days out your stomach is still healing and probably still numb. Measure out 2oz of food and try to take 20 min o eat it. Might not take that long, but don't want to push things.

On day 11 I was definitely eating eggs and could only eat one. My doctor had me eating eggs at this point. It completely filled me up. I see so many times on here that people get scared because they think their sleeve might be to big. When you start eating foods that aren't soft you will definitely see the difference. Your sleeve is working you have already lost 15 pounds....congrats! If you are worried call your doctor to put your fears to rest. Good luck!! :)

I'm only six days out and I am happy that I'm tolerating everything that I have tried thus far! Everyone has a different experience and tolerance levels. Each doctor also has their own technique. I know my doctor used the biggest bougie possible (size 4) when doing my sleeve. You will know if you are doing something wrong..you will feel terrible if you are eating too much. One egg is not a lot to eat! No matter what you are going to lose weight if you eat healthy and exercise. The sleeve is a great tool... I agree that you are still healing and should take it easy. But, don't for a moment doubt that you're ok...as long as you are feeling ok. I have managed to increase my Fluid intake to 6-8 oz in one sitting (I sip about 2 minutes apart). My fluid intake is at about 40 oz and my Protein intake is at about 34g. I have to improve on both. But, I have also included about 4 saltine crackers per day to help me feel more satisfied. I chew each cracker until it is mush in my mouth. I make sure to wait before I drink any liquid before and after the cracker. This is something that I probably shouldn't be doing the 6th day after surgery...but, I feel just fine! I actually feel great... My doctor told me to find whatever works for me as long as I don't over-do it. Best of luck to you...

Thanks Beachlover and everyone! I guess it's just I expected to be stuffed or throwing up. It's just learning and adjusting to the new norm, I suppose and I should consider myself lucky which is hard to accept that something good might actually be happening to me. I'm glad to hear that you've seen others think their sleeves were too big, it makes me feel better that I'm probably very normal just tripped out by the whole experience and what I thought it should be like.

not even close to full. freaked that I went through with this surgery for nothing.

tml

11 days and counting being sleeved!!!

you are still around to talk about it!!! ;)

when you are on liquids - like your Protein shake et al - you will not feel much if any restriction

when you start eating solids - you'll be able to feel the sweet smell of "restriction" :)

you had an egg which is a "soft" food, hummus, chocolate free fudgie?

i agree with OP that sounds like a little more than i was able to eat at that time

you repeated you won't "push" things in the future

i know you won't be in the "aim of fire" because you will eat only what you are supposed to, not a bite more ;)

always measure what you are allowed to eat

ie 2 oz of chicken - thats it - don't try to eat more

yes, i have heard on the board OP that can't down an egg - or drink much of a shake or whatever

but as OP said - we are all different

"my egg" went down smooth as silk ;)

btw - remember that during your weight process - people lose weight, amount of weight in their own time period

don't ever, ever compare yourself to other people

people have been shot for less ;)

the one thing we all have in common is that we're all different ;)

I am 99.999999% positive that you didn't go through major surgery in vain!!!

follow ALL the rules

always and forever

drink as much as possible -(64 oz at least)

never drink with your meal

wait 45-60 minutes after you eat before you eat anything

chew thoroughly, eat slowly putting utensil down after each bite

i can see B) you are a smart "cookie"

you will do great!!!!!

good luck

kathy

My NUT told me that she does not us to worry about calories or intake she want us to be in tuned with our stomachs and our brain. Eat Protein first as that is what your body needs so it will buff fat and not muscle then fruits and veggies. She calls it the "prescription". Also keep hydrated. If we listen to our bodies then we will not over eat and if we practice this now then we will be successful. I love it and it is the first time since I was 12 years old that I haven't been dieting and have loss over 50lbs since the surgery.

I am 9 days post-op and just told mu hubs today that it worried me how much more easily I could drink my Protein Shake, and my Clear Liquids. But since I am starting purees now, I had some pureed chicken and broccoli (pureed together) and that set off the restriction feeling big time!1 tbsp was all I could do. I think the pureed chicken/broc has more texture than an egg. I think you are likely to feel more restriction as you eat less soft stuff. Also, I'm watching the clock to not allow myself too long of a time to come back to a meal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
