I told my Mom that I'm going to do this. She's supportive. Yea! She thinks it is a good investment in my health and future (though she didn't offer and financial help :P ) I was afraid she'd think I was copping out and taking the easy route.

My mom was one of the last people I told and she was great. Even came from 6 hours after after surgery to help out.

I am glad to hear your mother is being supportive. It really is so much easier when you have the backing of your loved ones. Good for her and yea for you!

As my Mom is my emergency contact, I definitely wanted her to know beforehand just in case.

i am not looking forward to mentioning this to my mom. She lives in San Antonio so there is no urgency since she wont be seeing me for months. yet the contrast should be rather dramatic by that time. alas such is life. My tolerance for unnecesary drama is so low now that the persistent questioning would drive me crazy

She and I live in the same city, and she is nosy. I'd have to fess up at some point. Might as well do it early. As my father and his side of the family all have the big three that obesity causes (my father died of diabetes). I knew she would be easily convinced.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
