Write down the schedule and time yourself if you need to. Put it on your iphone if you have one and use a timer. My NUT wrote down some sample scheds.

At 3 days out I was taking my Vitamin in the morning and just drinking whatever I could whenever I could. I was still sleeping a lot on days 2 & 3 with naps that 1st week. I was not getting my Protein numbers in but was sipping as much as I could so I was not dehydrated. Mostly chicken broth, nectar protein and sf popsicles.

I tried to work with mealtimes..broth at lunch and dinner, shakes mid morning and mid afternoon and sipping Water all day long. I found it better to take the Vitamins in the middle of the day when my stomach wasn't empty. I was told the broth and shakes count as part of the 64 oz of liquid.< /p>

3 days out and I'm also so confused. I've started my Multivitamin, but haven't started Calcium yet. Still very tired. I can't seem to find a comfortable enough spot :( Day 3 is winding down tho so maybe it'll be better tonight. Kind of hard to take deep breaths and hurts on my lower left side. Hopefully in a few days it'll be better. I worry about everything tho.

As much as it might hurt continue taking deep breaths and it will end in a couple of days. A lot of the pain has to do with the anesthesia and the gas that they used. The pain will go away, take deep enough breaths that you make yourself cough, it will hurt so hold a pillow over your abdomen but the more you do it the sooner the pain will disappear! That was one thing that was required before I could leave the hospital.

Thank you!! I honestly don't know what I'd do without this app!! It's the best! I'm going to hang in there and keep breathing and coughing. Thank you again! :)

When Ieft the hospital yesterday, they had me drinking a little medicine cup of Water once every hour to see how we'll I tolerated it. Then it moved to 2 of those little medicine cups every hour. I'm not sure of the measurements but I got those down fine.

The 4 oz of Water per hour is a minimum floor, not a maximum ceiling (at least for every surgeon's plan I have seen). If you can do more and it doesn't bother you, go for it! No gulping though. And you may want to try variations on water -- warm tea (I found mint tea particularly soothing), G2, Powerade Zero, etc. They all help keep you hydrated.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
