Newbie looking for support

Recommended Posts

Hello I'm just starting my journey to receive gastric sleeve. This will be my second go round with this decision. The first time I let my family talk me out off it. It seems like they only hear negative things about this surgery never the positive things. So this time I decided to keep my decision o myself and only tell a select few whom I know will support me.

I'm 35 and the mother of two beautiful teenagers and I want to be around to see them go to college...get married and have my grandchildren :) I have been to the meeting with my surgeon on July 12th and we have decided to go with the sleeve. I have KHPE for insurance and I was told all I needed was a psych eval which is this upcoming Monday and a EDg. I pray about this daily. Praying that my issurance will approve me for this because I want to live.

Just looking for support encouragement and any suggestions or info you want tp give I'm all ears. Ohhhhhh I'm having my surey done by Dr. Marymor at Barix Clinic in Langhorn.

. I started this is journey last July. Best decision I've ever made, with only 1 regret. And that's not doing it sooner.

Btw, no one in my family knows. Only my husband & 3 very good non-judgemental friends.

Good luck to you.

Girl, this will be the best thing you've ever done for yourself! You will be great. I think it's fine not to tell everyone it's YOUR LIFE, not theirs. Plus, it's crazy as soon as people see you start changing for the better they will fall in line & support you.

Good luck honey! I'm also 35 with a teen & a tween. I told a good friend when I was still trying to decide & they were so upset that I was "risking my life for something I could do with diet & exercise". It crushed my excitement & I decided to only talk about it with people who have had WLS. I wanted educated opinions only. Nobody I spoke to had ANY regrets. There may be a day soon after surgery when you're asking yourself "what the heck did I get myself into" but after being fully healed I have NO REGRETS! Wish I would have done it sooner. My husband had reservations at first but once he gave me his wishes I really heard them & chose to comply to help him understand & support my decision. After all, he's a reasonable man. He asked me to wait 3 mos so that he wasn't so busy at work so he could take off during my recovery & to really research it & be absolutely certain I'd be able to live with my decision. It just so happened to take that long to get every appointment & insurance squared away. He also asked me to commit to being more active. The whole family goes to the gym almost every night now. He tells me I was always beautiful, I'm just showing off now. I've been very open about my WLS now that its over. I get compliments daily at work on my progress. I wish you a speedy recovery & contentment in your decisions.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
