New Jersey Doctor Reccomendations ?

Recommended Posts

Hello all ! :help:

I am looking for a good DR in the central Jersey area. I live near Jersey Shore Medical Center. Obviously the DR does not have to be out of there. I just am not sure where to start to look. Any help would be greatly appreciated :clap2:

Thanks

Chris

Being from central jersey, you shouldn't be too far from NYC. You should check out Dr.'s Ren and Fielding out of NYU and Dr.'s Roslin,Kurian, & Shah, out of Lennox Hill Hospital.

Both practices have been on Castle Connelly's Top Doctor's list for thier field. The NYU team has more experience with the lap band than most other practices in the country. Doesn't hurt to check into it.

Good luck!

In my opinion and during my research, I found that Dr. Michael Nusbaum (works out of St Barnabus and his office is in West Orange) is probably the best surgeon in NJ. His mortality rate is 0, his success rate is amazing and he a great doctor.

Also and I find this great, he designed/created/whatever the word is the new"standard" for performing the lapband surgery. His office staff is wonderful and I can not say enough good things about him.

I too live at the Jersey shore and found nobody in the immediate area, however, I had mine done by Dr Garth Ballantyne at Hackensack Medical Center and I was very pleased. FYI there are other good doctors at Hackensack as well

I'm going to use Dr. Chau at NJ Bariatrics in Monmouth Junction (near Princeton). The NJ Bariatrics/University Medical Center at Princeton is a Center of Excellence.

Hey all,

Has anyone heard of or have any reccomendations of theCenter for bariartrics at SOCH in Manahawkin? They are a relatively new center. They come with high credentials, so i have my first consult next week. If anyone can give me any advise or personal experience with this group, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks

I met with doctor Reich, Seemed like a nice guy. Willing to help me get this done. Did you have any problems with insurance? How long from consult to actual surgery? I hope you don't mind the questions.

Don't mind the questions at all! I didn't have any problems with my insurance except they require 6 mos of nutrition counseling before surgery. I am scheduled for next Thurs and got my final approval yesterday. The office does everything for you insurancewise.

I'm going to Dr Barbalinardo (out of Dr Reich's office) - surgery date is 1/18/11 (based on aetna approval)

I agree == they are SO helpful and seem to REALLY KNOW what they're doing --- they're really trying to assure me that I'm going to be just fine with the insurance thing and all. Excited to get this done and i'm SO VERY impressed w/ this office

Hi Chris,

I would go to Dr. Morris Washington. His practice is in Holmdel and Freehold, NJ. He is a bariactric surgeon and has been one for many years. I would not go to a general surgeon. There are not too many MD's to choose from but, Dr. Washington is A+. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
