I have not been a member that long..however i have heard of you from your wife posting on these boards..i think its admirable that you would want to use your time and money to help others. I can not speak about what went down with you and alex as every side has a story..however out of curiosity..have you ever thought about creating a website for sleevers or people wanting to get sleeved and directing people on here to a link to that website so they can talk further with you about whats going on...you could help many more people that way...and you could proceed to accompany people as an advocate..

Perhaps im suggesting what you have already thought..but i figure it cant hurt to suggest it because i know so many people are in neex of the surgery and in need of stress free un-biased information regarding hospitals surgeons fees and the like.

Thank you for being a great guy..one in a million who actually cares enough to help people the way you do..words are probably not enough

I'm westcoast ladies friend and the couple has helped me every step of the way. Before surgery, after, and all the inbetweens. The couple really has not been anything but nice to me and I really cannot think of any way to make up for how much they have helped me. Besides talking to me and calming me down for hours everyday, never asking for anything in return, they email me reminders to walk and tell me what are fun things to do in Mexico.

I came down to Mexico alone and I would be a mess if not for the amazing work of these two people. When I woke alone in the hospital after surgery, the only thing I remembered was westcoastlady's husband's voice saying "WALK WALK WALK WALK WALK". Despite the pain I got up and walked, I have called them all hours of the day being nervous, excited, tired, and they have never failed to calm me down and make me feel reassured.

I tip my hat off to this couple and this website lost an amazing couple today. I'm just happy they were around when I went to Mx and I love this couple to death!

P.S. If you're ever in town, I need to take you guys out :)

I am actually the one who brought this to Alex's attention. Contrary to what has been posted, this had nothing to do with competition, money, or anything else. It had to do with concern for our members. Take a step back for a moment, and tell me, knowing the things that go on in this day and age, if seeing numerous posts of a man offering to accompany woman whom he has never met alone to a foreign country, or even his own wife offering his services, doesn't seem a bit suspicious? Unfortunately, we here about internet scams all the time, people falling for them, losing all their money, getting molested, or worse. We do not know the OP or his wife, so, based upon that, yes, we felt the need to protect our members by doing a little investigating to ensure their safety was not at risk. If that offends some of you, well, I will not say I am sorry because I firmly believe what was done was in the best interest of our members. I will continue to stand by my belief that any woman, or man for that matter, should be very cautious about accepting free or paid services from anyone who offers to accompany them alone to a foreign country when they are quite vulnerable and could be taken advantage of. I am not saying that is in any way the OP or his wife's intention, I am just saying better to err on the side of caution.

I didn't accuse anyone of basing this on money. I simply asked a question. As i said i am not in on the goings on behind the scenes here. Its apparent that there are many people on this website that are making money from facilitating services or referrals. That is apparently a legitimate business so not of any concern to me. They all look the same to me.I have no reason to care but it does breed competition and that is what i was referring to. Some people compete in a healthy way and others do it in an underhanded way. It is what it is. That is what is meant and that is all I said.

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
