2.5 weeks post surgery questions

Recommended Posts

Hi all, thanks for reading!

I had surgery on July 10. All in all it went well. I didn't have the major gas pains I usually do post surgery which is nice. What I do have is unending nausea with intermittent vomiting whether I eat or not. I am getting in between 300 and 500 calories per day. But it is a constant struggle. The other thing is, I have no energy whatsoever. Now yes I know this is a big surgery and recovery takes time. I just need feedback as to whether this is the regular experience of fellow sleepers, or if I need to be talking to so done about this nausea and energy. I pretty much sleep or sit around in a daze all day and night. Feedback is appreciated, thanks for sharing of your experiences.

Call your doc about the nausea. I was exhausted for quite a while.

Questions: Are you getting enough Protein? and How are you able to get in sooooo many calories? :0) I struggle to get 500 cal. and I'm almost 2mo out...

Good luck!

I find the calories easier than I thought to get in. Over the course of the day I drink 2 Protein Shakes, that combined have 60 grams of Protein and 300 calories. Then I also get in a little Soup once a day, which my nut told me to stick a little cheese in and melt it. The cheese is supposed to help with the unending diarrhea I was having. Well that and the added Iron pill. They seem to be helping with that at least. But even my anti nausea liquid makes me viciously ill. Guess its time to talk to the doc.

Weeks 2-5 for me were rough in terms of how I was feeling- I went back to work after two weeks, and I was just so exhausted and felt weak almost all day. I would come home from work and go straight to bed. I really started feeling better by week 6 when I was able to get my calories up to 800 a day. Now, almost at week 8 I feel great during the day- I have energy and have no problem working all day and then doing my chores and such around the house. I started going to the gym but then had to stop temporarily because one of my incisions opened up, but that's another story. As far as the nausea, are you taking a prescription antacid like Nexium or Pepcid? I take Nexium every day, and one day I forgot and I felt SO sick all day long until I realized I had forgotten to take my pill. It makes such a difference for me. I also found that after surgery I never feel hungry, but when I start to feel nauseous, then it is time for me to eat, and when I eat something, I feel better. I think that my body just has a new way of telling me to eat than it did before.

Thanks for the feedback. I take Prevacid everyday. I missed it one day and definitely noticed a difference. I am concerned about my energy level because I am technically caring for 2 terminally ill parents. They still function rather well, but I am worried because I just don't have the energy to do much right now.

I'm 4 weeks post-op and was still battling the nausea until the other day. I took a promethazine pill that my surgeon had prescribed for post op. I hadn't taken one until this week and it made a huge difference. Not only was my nausea gone, but so was the constant headache. I've been able to up my nutrition as a result. The shakes were making me super nauseous so I don't have them every day any more.

I'm still feeling pretty weak though. I've gotten dehydrated twice now. You'd think I'd learn after the first time!

I was tired too. Many of the people here bounced back a lot sooner than I did. I was constantly tired for nearly 3 months. I'm going on 5 months now and feel pretty good most of the time. Hang in there because it really does get better.

I gotta say that I love reading the post-op stuff...because I'll be sleeved the 21st of Aug and I'm getting nervous. Seeing that exhaustion and nausea may be a bit of what I'm in for is actually encouraging. Remember, on the biggest loser....they are always tired and under energy/ over emotion in the beginning. You gotta wait for it I guess.....it's worth it I think. Good luck...try what the experienced ones tell you to try...they've been there, done that. I trust them... ;)

I'm almost 4 weeks out and been suffering from the same thing. Nausea was bad up until 2 days ago. Before then I was nauseous all day long. My doctor said he wasn't concerned as long as I was able to get in my Protein, liquids, and supplements (which I can). He said for some reason sleevers sometimes have a lot of nausea for a time and then it just goes away. He also increased my Prilosec dose to twice a day instead of once. I'm hoping the nausea is gone for good but we will see. I do have zofran that I take for it and it helps.

Energy levels are crap too. Went back to work last week and don't think I made it thru an entre day.

You're not alone! :)

I was sleeved nearly 3 months ago and suffered extreme nausea for the 1st 2 months, especially in the mornings. I am on nexium to help with the acid (which helps with the nausea in the mornings too). Dont get me wrong, i do still get nausea but mot as frequently.

A lot of people mention this happening to them and mention taking meds for the acid reflux which helps with the nausea so it would be worthwhile having a chat to your dr.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
