Hi ALL,

When were you cleared for exercise? My surgeon cleared me at 12 days out but, I was scared & to be honest...I just started at 6wks out! When did you start? Did you have restrictions? I tried the 30 day shred a few days ago & I thought I hurt my new tummy! I'm a runner & I like to spin...I just don't want it to be too much too soon!

Thanks everyone!

I was cleared to increase my walking yesterday at a week out from surgery. I go back in three weeks and hope I get the all clear for the gym.

I could walk immediately, but other exercise wasn't approved until 6 weeks out. At that point, I had an all clear.

i can be in either Dallas airport in less than 1 hour to pick you up!

My surgeon encourages walking right out of surgery. Within an hour of being wheeled to my room i was walking a lap around the nurses' station. When i got home, I did a lap around the living room/dining room. A week after surgery I was on the treadmill at the gym. I took it easy that day and only had a small pain in my left side. I had no issues with the treadmill since.

Listen to your body, it'll tell you if you're pushing too much.

You're doing great, and I'm really proud of you.

Walking is usually encouraged right after removal from the recovery room in the hospital. Then usually increase it every day for the next week or two. I was told to walk, walk, walk, but be careful straining or picking things up for the first 3-4 weeks. So I started picking up weights around week 2-3 post-op, a little earlier than I probably should've. But I went really light when lifting at first. As far as just movement exercises early on, you can probably be a little less cautious with that since strain is not as much of a factor.

I was walking about a mile and a half I think day 3 post op and a little over 3 miles from day 7 on. At my follow up with my surgeon at about 2 1/2 weeks, he told me I really didn't have any restrictions when it came to exercise.

Molly - as a runner, do you remember how long it took you to actually be able to run a good distance? I would love to be able to jog/run. Yesterday at the gym I was able to jog at 4.1mph for 2 mins then I would walk at 3.7 for 3 mins and repeat. I was able to keep it up for the whole hour. Gotta say, kinda proud of myself! :D

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
