I have completed my 6 month preop visits with my primary care physician and I am currently waiting in approval from my insurance company. I am so excited and anxious I can hardly stand it. I have been overweight my entire life and have struggled to lose weight and keep it off. I have 4 year old twin girls and I am doing this to be healthier for them. My last step is to stop smoking, I am struggling with this but know I have to do it. I have been reading posts on here for awhile and decided it was time to post one myself. Looking forward to this journey and getting to know some of you.

Welcome! That so exciting that you are waiting for approval. I have a 6month requirement as well. I started the process in april. I have 2 daughters ages5 and 2! I have a question for you its something i was confused about. When were your weigh ins? Did you have to do 6 or 7 weigh ins in total? Good luck with the rest of your journey

I had to weigh in monthly with my primary physician but it is my understanding this could have been done with a nutritionist or at a place like weight watchers. It was a drawn out process, even my PCP was tired of it. Now I'm just trying to make sure the surgeons office has everything they need to submit to insurance.

I know that part i have been weighing in with my pcp since april i just wanted to know how many you had in total b/c i was thinking my last one would be in sept (itll be the 6th one) but someone said on here that it is 7 weigh ins in a 6month period. Can you give me the breakdown of dates that you weighed in?

I had a total of 6, beginning in February and ending in July. Once a month, sometimes not exactly a month apart. If I was there and it was a new month, he went ahead and completed the flow sheet. Surgeon called and they will submit everything to insurance next week. Insurance said they have at least 15 business days to make a decision. So I'm guessing if everything goes alright, I am looking at surgery sometime in September. I actually began the process with my insurance in January, so be prepared that it is actually longer than 6 months.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
