I was wondering, has anyone else had problems drinking cold drinks? I had surgery on Monday. Whenever I try to refresh myself with cold Water, I find it difficult and a bit painful to get down. I'm working on it though.

This is going to sound a little stupid but did you try drinks at room tempature?

I had surgery on Monday also, and I can drink liquids at any temp. I've had cold, room temp, and warm. They all go down fine, but the cold drinks feel kinda weird going down. Not painful or anything, just weird. Feels like that until it gets all the way down and then goes away.

Initially after surgery, the cold Water the hospital provided seemed to make my stomach clinch up-- which hurt a bit. Room temperature was way easier for me to handle early on. I'm 2.5 weeks PO and love cold water again.

The first week after surgery, I didn't like cold drinks, room temp was better, even with milk. YUCK!!! I always ask for extra ice, so this was bizarre!!! By the middle of week 2, I was back to normal, and wanted iced cold again. This is when, for the first time, my husband came up with the idea of keeping glass glasses in the freezer for me. I LOVE my milk in these frosted glasses!!!! I am still doing it now, three years later!!!!

Ok. So I am hopeful. That's what is happening. It's like it makes my sleeve constrict.

The first two weeks if I tried to drink cold stuff it would feel like my tummy was spasming. It hurt. But around 2.5 to three weeks I could start drinking cold stuff again.

Now the only thing I can't do is chug. Sip sip sip is my new way of life. :-)

I think I might miss chugging. But I only chugged when I was super thirsty. Since we hav to always be hydrated, maybe I won't miss it as much. I dunno. It remains to be seen. U r right "sip sip sip" :)

I'm about 12 day post op and just started being able to drink ice cold Water a couple days ago. Thank God. It's hot here in Oregon right now! it hurt big time the first week or so. Give it a few days. You're pretty raw inside right now

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
