roundy 14 Posted July 25, 2013 I am 1-1/2 weeks post op wondering when are you are able to sleep in a different position other than on your back? I tried laying on my side last night and it is a kinda uncomfortable but better than being on my back? I don't recall my surgeon telling me I couldn't sleep on my side or stomach until a certain time? I am a stomach sleeper normally and would love to get back to that. I tried laying on my stomach today and it isn't that uncomfortable...... But am I allowed to? Will it effect anything internally at this point?
Bufflehead 6,358 Posted July 25, 2013 I don't think it will affect anything. As long as it is (relatively) comfortable for you, you should be okay. It took me about 2 weeks to be able to sleep in any position other than my back, but then everything was good I'm not a doctor but I'm figuring that if my surgeon didn't put anything about sleeping position in his 70+ page manual for sleeve patients then I should be okay with sleeping in any comfortable position. Every other possible thing is covered I think! 1 roundy reacted to this
Jamie Greatone Jamison 19 Posted July 25, 2013 I have slept on my sides since and back. I have laid on my stomach for back massages though and been comfortable.
SueJH 205 Posted July 25, 2013 I think it took me about 2 weeks also until I was comfortable sleeping on my side. It gets better.
becogolfer 68 Posted July 26, 2013 I was 2 weeks till I could sleep on my right side, 4 weeks till my left side or stomach. My surgeon follow up was at 4 weeks and when I asked about it he told me that at that time the tummy was strong enough to handle bungy jumping but to expect some pain when moving around for a few months as he "stabbed me many, many times" , then he laughed. I laughed but it was more that nervous, that's not really very funny laugh that you give someone when you don't know what else to do. I am not almost 11 weeks out and sleep just fine in any position. It's all good now, hang in there.
Mrs Havelock 154 Posted July 26, 2013 I slept on my side on my second night post-op. Whatever is most comfortable for you, do it. Your body will soon let you know!
